Week 8, Term 1

STEM

Students will be completing their designs for a homeless shelter. When complete, they will then justify the choices they made in their design by explaining how their shelter meets the needs of those in need within our community. They will focus on describing its mobility, waterproofness, safety, comfort and ease of use. 

 

This task will be our term’s Learning Snapshot so please keep your eye on Showbie for when your child uploads their work. 

Visual Arts

Prep

The Preps have begun a ceramic project for Mother’s Day. They will learn how to make a pinch pot and add pattern markings around the edges. 

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will be adding plaster to their bunny sculptures from last week. Their focus will be smoothing out and overlapping for strength and coverage.

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students will be printing with Autumn leaves using paint sticks. They will trace the outline shape following the contour lines of the leaves.

 

Grade 5 

Students will be hand building a coil mug out of clay. They will focus on even coils, tapering their mug from bottom to top, and sealing the inside to be able to hold water.

 

Grade 6

Students will continue to work on their dry felt Australian landscape. They will focus on blending colours, layering their design and adding small details to their work.

Auslan

Prep

Prep students will continue to explore the signs for the colours of the rainbow, particularly blue, purple and pink. They will also follow instructions signed to them in Auslan to colour an specific image.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will complete a matching activity to help them recognise signs for common objects in the classroom. They will also complete this term’s Learning Snapshot demonstrating how to sign the phrase, ‘Can I have…, please?’

 

Grade 3 to 6

This week students will commence completing their Learning Snapshot for this term. They will begin to rehearse and then record a video presentation demonstrating how they can sign common phrases and questions used by both teachers and students in the classroom.

 

Physical Education

 

Prep PE

We will continue to revise the fundamental movement skills of throwing, catching and running. Students will practice running in groups, and will be introduced to the concept of relay running with a baton.  

 

Prep Sensory:

Students will participate in rotational activities with the focus on improving their core strength, balance and ability to work in a small group.

 

Grade 1 and 2

This week, students will enjoy some collaborative activities, with a specific focus on throwing accuracy. When completing an overhand throw, they will be encouraged to stand side on and follow through in the direction of the target. 

 

Grade 3 and 4

In our final week of Sofcrosse (Lacrosse), students will participate in a modified game, with a focus on applying the key skills of passing, catching and running. They will be given opportunity to continue developing their running stamina in preparation for our whole school cross country event.

 

Grade 5 and 6

In our final week of Sofcrosse (Lacrosse), students will participate in a modified game, with a focus on the execution of key skills and monitoring field position when their team is attacking and defending. They will be given opportunity to continue developing their running stamina in preparation for our whole school cross country event.

 

Performing Arts

🎵 Prep

Students are applying their learning from the term to respond to stories using their own compositions. They will use body percussion and instruments to play in a way that corresponds to the actions in a story. Students will show their understanding of fast and slow, loud and soft, and high and low. 

 

🎤 Grade 1 and 2

Students are continuing to explore rhythm patterns which can be made using 'ti-ti', 'taa' and 'zaa' through a variety of songs and movements. Students will finish composing their own rhythm pattern. They will practise this pattern before performing it to the class using either body percussion or a percussive instrument of their choice.  

 

🎶 Grade 3 and 4

Students are continuing to use drama activities to explore the themes, characters and stories in two books. Students are currently working through the second book, creating characters and scenes using improvisations and character development tasks. Through the experiences, students will unpack the question; 'What does friendship mean?', linking to our CBL Big Idea of 'Community'. Students will complete their exploration this week and work on a short reflective task. 

 

🎭 Grade 5 and 6

In their groups, students will be finalising their short self-devised' physical theatre performance, inspired by the idea of 'community'. They will perform their work for the class and provide feedback to their peers. Students will also complete a short reflection task on this performance making task.
