Yip Yip Circus

Our Year 7 Drama students recently embarked on an exciting journey into the world of circus acts, courtesy of the talented instructors from Yip Yip Circus! Over four weeks, our budding performers immersed themselves in a series of circus skills workshops, discovering the secrets behind juggling, poi, diabolo, hoops, spinning plates, clowning and acrobatics. Under the expert guidance of the Yip Yip Circus trainers, our students were able to develop their circus skills whilst building their teamwork, creativity and confidence in performing. The grand finale of this exciting program culminated in the creation of some amazing circus performances for our pre-primary students.

Year 12 Ball

Nestled beneath the shimmering stars and Perth's city skyline as the backdrop, Fraser's Restaurant at King's Park emerged as the perfect canvas for an unforgettable evening—the annual school ball. The magical voices of Dace Caringal and Rev. Dr Battersby introduced the ball's theme, 'Starry Night.'

Our College Captains, Eairn and Beckham, also gave a speech to thank the Ball Committee and staff who helped with the organisation of the ball. A highlight of the evening was the catwalk, led by Mr Hoffmann and Ms Rudd, where all students were enthusiastic to show off their gowns and suits. Kurt F., adorned in a shimmering blazer, was crowned the "Beau of the Ball", while the 'Belle of the Ball' went to Selena V., who looked spectacular in a blue dress. The spotlight also shone on the best-dressed individuals. Seth P., in a pristine white suit, and Hayleigh M., who designed her own exquisite gown, won the votes of the staff. The dance floor was filled with energy as students showcased their finest moves.

The College Ball at Fraser's Restaurant had not only been an event; it had been an enchanting journey through a 'Starry Night', leaving lasting memories for all who attended.

Sculptures by the Sea

On 7 March, The King's College Visual Arts, Media and Design (photography + graphics students) from Years 9-12 had the cost-free opportunity to take an interesting trip to the 20th Annual Sculptures by the Sea Exhibition at Cottesloe Beach. It was perfect ice-cream weather as we walked along the iconic beach and groyne to view the very diverse and thought-provoking range of sculptures designed and constructed to be site-specific and withstand harsh exterior weather conditions.

Incredibly, this annual event, held at Bondi and Cottesloe beaches, was inspired by the vision of founder David Handley, AM (BA '87, LLB '89), and is now in its 25th year in NSW.

He has some advice for up-and-coming social entrepreneurs:

“You need to have real passion for what you’re doing, or you’re not going to succeed,” he says. “I wanted to create something free and long lasting. I think a free event on the scale of Sculpture by the Sea does add something to our sense of community.” David Handley

Handley was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2016 in recognition of his efforts to ensure engagement with schools and people with disabilities. He says his aim was to make Sculpture by the Sea accessible to everyone.

ENCOUNTER DAY

Dr. Rev Michael Battersby

On Friday 15 March, 2024, the students at The King's College were given some wonderful opportunities to prepare for life in the real world - and Years 11 and 12 are definitely at the pointy end of their journey. As an initiative of our Christian Education Program, we brought in experienced youth leaders and communicators to help Year 11s and 12s grapple with the important areas of Identity, Knowing and using your Strengths, Fighting Fair in relationships, Failing Well and, Resilience - Don't Sweat It!,  stress management techniques and Facing Fear.

Our Year 12 Leadership Team hosted the breakout discussion sessions, and of course, there was great pizza and snacks to enjoy throughout the day. We finished with a very compelling and inspirational ministry time and movie (complete with large lolly bags!), which looked at different people's responses to who Jesus was. It was a nice segue into our Easter season. We can't wait for our next full day of Camp Vibe on Campus in Term 2's Encounter Day.

Thanks to Mrs Paul, Ps Linda and Michael, Mr Davies, Mr Hubbard, our Christian Ministry leaders, Maddie and Connor, College Captains - Beckham and Eairn, and the fantastic IZRA TEAM, who coached our students on the day.

Year 10 Ice Skating Social

Mr Mathew Asphar, Head of Year 10

On 22 March, the Year 10 cohort from The King's College had their first social outing of the year, an evening of Ice Skating at the Cockburn Ice Arena. The students exhibited various levels of ice-skating abilities. It was obvious that some of the students were excellent skaters and were very much at home on the ice, whilst others - despite having a good time - looked a little less comfortable (a bit like how Mr Asphar looks on the ice!!). All the students though, really enjoyed the opportunity to spend the evening together. On behalf of the Year 10s, I would like to say a special thank you to the following staff, who spent their Friday night with us. Mrs Nolan, Mrs Best, Ms Kidd, Ms Koshy, Mrs De Piazza.
