PnC News

Happy March from the Parents and Carers Committee!

About the P&C

The Parents and Carers Committee (P&C) is a sub-commitee of the School Council. It is made up of volunteer parents and carers from the school community as well as a representative from the elected School Council.

What does the P&C do?

The P&C assists the School Council by organising fundraising and 'friend-raising' activities for our school community throughout the year. Events include:

  • BBQs and whole school breakfasts
  • Coffee mornings
  • Co-ops & bulk-buys
  • Comedy & trivia nights
  • Mother's & Father's Day gifts stall & raffle

Why does our school need to fundraise?

Federal and state funding for government primary schools is based on factors such as the location of the school, the number of students enrolled, and the estimated income of families.

However, these funds only provide a base level of resources and opportunities for our kids. All P&C fundraising efforts directly benefit the school community and our kids' experiences at school.

To make MPS the best school it can be, over the years, P&C Fundraising has contributed to projects such as:

  • Quality home reader & library books
  • Playground upgrades
  • New sports equipment
  • Psychology and speech pathology staff
  • New/upgraded classrooms and resources
  • New library
  • New playground equipment

How and why get involved

Official positions on the P&C are elected by the committee every year, but all MPS parents or carers are members of the P&C and can attend meetings. The committee meets monthly at school and online to plan events and generate ideas. All MPS parents and carers are invited to attend meetings, suggest events or fundraising opportunities, or assist at an event. Our school relies on volunteers to help make it a great place for kids and their families. All offers of help make a difference, and we always welcome new and old faces and ideas!

We understand life with kids is busy, which is why we offer a range of ways to volunteer for those who are interested. Every little bit helps.

Ways you could get involved include:

  • Run an event (with lots of volunteer helpers!)
  • Cook or serve at a BBQ
  • Make coffee at a coffee morning
  • Bake for a fundraising event
  • Donate to a hamper/raffle
  • Help with setup or pack up at an event
  • Share your ideas at a meeting

Benefits of volunteering at school:

  • Meet other parents and make friends
  • Learn new skills
  • Make MPS a great school for everyone
  • Be part of the local community
  • Set a good example for the kids
  • Feel awesome
