Twilight Sports

What an incredible event we had on Wednesday 6th March.

Our annual Twilight Sports event held by Kaboom Kid Sports not only brought the community together, but also brought plenty of fun, colour, laughter and dancing.

A big thank you to all staff for their assistance on the day, and to Sengul for taking plenty of photos and capturing many special moments.

Congratulations to Coburg Lake on winning the 2024 Twilight Sports shield!

Another big thank you to the PNC for running a successful BBQ and organising the family picnic and bringing the community together.

We are also looking for feedback from the event, so if you wish to leave some feedback, please click on the link below:

Open Streets - Friday 23rd February

On Friday 23rd February we held our first Open Streets of the year. It was a great morning with plenty of bikes, scooters and skateboards riding around Blair Street. Students enjoyed the many activities that included chalk drawing, obstacle course, basketball, AFL targets, dancing, skipping, hula hooping and much more. A big thank you to Vikki and George for their efforts selling coffee!

The next Open Street is on Friday 22nd March - this is also National Ride 2 School Day. It would be great to see students and parents riding to school on this day. We will be having a visit from Dr Cranky! Please see the attached flyer for more details or check their website: https://www.drcrankys.com.au/

“National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel and one of the best days on the school calendar. The day has helped thousands of schools to empower and enable students to get physically active on their journey to school, giving them the opportunity to create healthy habits for their future”

Just a reminder that during these events, parents should not park across resident drive-ways to ensure residents are able to have access to their homes. Parents are asked to find a car park down the street or adjoining street and walk to pick up their students, not double park in front of the road closed signs.

Thank you and we are looking forward to the next big event on Friday 22nd March.

Road Safety on Barrow Street

Many children walk and ride to Merri-bek Primary and Coburg High School via Barrow Street. Currently there is too much non-local traffic on Barrow Street. Non-local traffic will increase when DeCarle Street bike lanes are installed later this year.

Council wants to reduce this traffic. They would like to consult with the community about safety measures. They have proposed a trial; closing Barrow Street at Harding Street. This would stop it being used as a short cut between Bell Street and Moreland Road. The proposal also included a trial road closure at Pearson and Albion Streets in Brunswick, next to Brunswick North Primary - also a rat run.

At the Merri-bek Council meeting, on March 13, Councillors voted on the proposal to consult the community on the trial and the proposal was defeated. Councillors said they hadn’t heard from the community.

Parents across these school communities are pushing for the Barrow Street proposal to be discussed again at the next Council meeting on 10 April.

If you support increased safety on Barrow Street for children who walk and ride to school, please consider contacting these Councillors before the 10 April meeting.
