Level 6

Level  6

The Level 6 students have been busy these last 2 weeks, learning lots and deepening their understandings in all subject areas. On Tuesday the 12th of March we had our second Gala day, where the students participated in round robin sports. Two of our teams successfully won the flag for their sport – congratulations to the Volley Bounce and Teeball teams.

Literacy

In recent weeks, Level 6 students have been exploring more about our Inquiry topic – History. Students have been learning about multiculturalism in Australia, immigration, as well as notable Australians. In Writing, students have been working on their narrative skills. We have focussed on the 6+1 traits, with a particular focus on Word Choice, Ideas and Presentation. The students have enjoyed lessons outside, where they brainstormed rich, colourful language for describing words, as well as exploring their senses and writing descriptively based on what they see, hear and feel.

Numeracy

In Maths, students have been exploring addition and subtraction, with a focus on fractions and decimals. Students have worked on their maths fluency, through practising how to add and subtract like and unlike fractions, and have applied their understanding and skills to various hands-on tasks. One of the activities which was a hit with the students was them designing their very own playground or amusement park and then identifying what percentage, fraction or ratio of space each object occupied in a grid space of 10x10.
