CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

Picking up term 2 right where we left off at the end of term 1, everything is super busy. Assessments and Sacs have been frequent for the senior school in the first two weeks back. There have also been many exciting sporting days and events being planned and trialled for.

The sports house captains engaged the McKinnon community with an enticing Cross Country promotion video which was held on Friday 3 May. Many sporting trials have also been held including, Girls Footy and Boys Netball to make the teams before the Round Robin days on Monday 6 May.

There has also been plenty of planning for the Year 12 Trivia Night coming up on Friday 10 May by the senior council and school captain teams. It should be a very exciting night for all attending with their elite costumes.

It’s safe to say the start of term 2 has been very hectic with lots of organisation in place in order to make sure these events are run smoothly and are super fun for all involved.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

On the last Monday of April, the East Campus captains and Leadership Team attended an all-day leadership training course at the McKinnon Road Campus. The day was run by YLead, an organisation dedicated to providing unique leadership experiences. The title of our course was “Maximising the Badge”. It was an opportunity for us to connect and learn more about our role as leaders.

George, a Ylead representative, ran games to do with problem-solving, time management and teamwork. He then linked these activities to re-world strategies that a great leader would use. We broke up into different groups throughout the day and had an amazing time. Some of the 2023 Junior School Captains even made an appearance and advised us on the year to come. We spent the last two periods on some brainstorming for the year to come. This included possible events which we would run throughout the year and any possible school improvements. A big thanks to Mr Landini and Ms Arneil for organising the day for us.

On another note, we recently hosted our annual Cross Country, this year’s dress-up theme being glitter and sparkles. The double period was well-spent with everyone at East Campus enjoying the day either participating in races, cheering on their friends or buying a soft drink from the Interact Club booth whilst enjoying the music.

We thank all the teachers, staff and students that helped set up and run this event. A special shoutout to Ms Owen who was doing an amazing job cycling ahead of the runners.
