PERFORMING ARTS
‘GIGS ON THE GREEN’ - MCKINNON ROAD CAMPUS
On Thursday 2 May, McKinnon had its first Gigs On the Green for 2024. Mr Cedric Chamontin organised a band consisting of teaching staff for this performance: Mr Cedric Chamontin - Guitar, Voice; Ms Leah Humphrey – Voice; Mr Paschal Lee – drums and Mr Andrew Albanis - Bass. The opportunity for performers is now open. If you're interested in performing on the A1 stage, please contact Mr Andrew Albanis or Ms Leah Humphrey.
ANZAC DAY REPORT
On Thursday 25 April, the McKinnon Brass Ensemble and three vocal students attended the ANZAC Day Service at Bentleigh RSL. The event was attended by people of all ages, including local cadets and veterans. McKinnon Secondary College performed the Australian and New Zealand National Anthems, and East Campus leaders laid a wreath on behalf of the college. This experience was valuable for all, as it emphasised the importance of remembering and honouring the brave ANZAC soldiers who fought for their country. Special thanks to Mr Dmitry Serebrianik and Ms West for their rehearsals and support as well as to all the students who participated.
MELBOURNE OPERA IS PRESENTING LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR
The incredible talent of Elena Xanthoudakis will be on display for all to experience at the Athenaeum Theatre for four performances only (Wednesday 8, Tuesday 14, Thursday 16 and Saturday 18 May). She is singing the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor with Melbourne Opera and I have the pleasure of experiencing her glorious voice up close as a member of the cast. Buy tickets through Ticketmaster, don't miss out!
Another ex-McKinnon student to watch for is the talented young clarinettist Lily Tamir-Regev. Lily has a chamber trio called Aphelion and last month she performed as a guest artist with the internationally renowned concert pianist Alan Kogosowski. The programme was dedicated to celebrating Gershwin's 100th anniversary of Rhapsody in Blue.
The music faculty of McKinnon wishes Elena and Lily continued success in their artistic endeavours.
