MCKINNON STUDENTS PLAYING FOR AUSTRALIA
Our Volleyball Superstar Sophie Kay, from Year 9, represented Australia in the U16 Girls, at the Thailand Junior Volleyball Championships in Bangkok over the last few weeks. What an amazing experience playing other quality nations in the humidity. We wish Sophie all the best in future volleyball competitions.
James Kay, from Year 12, was also selected to play for Australia, in the U20 men squad. He will be competing in the Asian Championships Qualifier from 6-11 June in Canberra, and we wish him the best of luck.
ONE DAY SCHOOLS CUP - WEDNESDAY 1 MAY
Our Year 9 Boys (who finished second at Nationals last year in Year 8) played in the Year 10 Div 1 Boys in the One Day Schools Cup. What a brilliant effort to get a Silver medal!
Thanks to Zoe Fischer for coaching the boys on the day. The Year 12 Girls Div 1 also competed on 1 May and came third, receiving a Bronze medal. There were so many impressive plays from both teams and the athletes had a successful day. Thanks to Sandy Hope for coaching the girls and organising the day and thanks to Mr Bridges for taking the time to drive athletes in and out of Dandenong Stadium.
ONE DAY SCHOOLS CUP – THURSDAY 2 MAY
Our school entered three Girls teams and three Boys teams in Year 9, as well as two Girls teams and two Boys teams in Year 11. The athletes have been training all year to compete against other schools in the One Day Schools Cup. It was the first time many of our athletes had competed, whilst others had played many tournaments in their time at the school. It was a pleasure watching the joy, teamwork, encouragement and cheers of M-C-K! Well done in particular to the Year 11 Boys Div 1 who received a Silver medal, the Year 11 Girls Div 1 who received a Silver medal and the Year 9 Girls Div 1 who received a Bronze medal. Thanks to the coaches: Rachel Walker, Ray Braniska, Bianca Sguario, Zoe Fischer, Tayla Fischer, Holly Spencer, Alma Segev, Luca Frazer, Minja Zlatic and Sandy Hope.
INTERMEDIATE VOLLEYBALL SMR - MONDAY 29 APRIL
Congratulations to the Intermediate Southern Metro Sports Region Champions Girls and Runners Up Boys.
The girls didn’t drop a set all day and beat Hampton Park in two sets in the Grand Final, and move onto the next round on Wednesday 15 May.
The boys won all of their pool games but they unfortunately lost a very close third set 14-16 to Keysborough College. Great team effort and good sportsmanship by everyone!
Thanks to Jorren Yang for supporting the boys on the day.
YEAR 7 BOYS VOLLEYBALL SMR FINALS
