Year Seven
Humanities
In Year Seven we are proud to share the hard work and dedication of our cohort this week as they actively participated in the NAPLAN assessments, including tasks in Reading, Writing, and Language Conventions. Their overall commitment to showcasing their skills and knowledge was certainly commendable.
Over the past few weeks, students have been engaged in a fascinating Humanities project. They delved into researching various cultural celebrations within the Australian community, such as ANZAC Day, Labour Day, Ramadan, and Diwali. This project involved exploring the history, impact on the community, associated symbols, and customs practiced during these occasions. Students showcased their findings creatively through posters, slide shows, and other mediums, highlighting their enthusiasm for learning and cultural understanding.
Mathematics
In Year Seven, students have had a successful first term of learning in Mathematics. We are so proud of the hard work and dedication that our students have displayed and look forward to Term Two, where we will continue our learning journey.
Over the last four weeks, our Year Seven students have learned through targeted sessions and have tackled a myriad of worded questions, mastering the art of problem-solving. These preparations have not only equipped students with essential skills, but also instilled confidence as they approached the NAPLAN assessment period.
Last week, our Year Seven students displayed perseverance and determination, working hard to solve the 42 questions during the NAPLAN session. It's inspiring to see our students rise to the challenge and demonstrate their mathematical prowess.
As we look ahead to Term Two, students will embark on an exploration of chance, where they will construct sample spaces for single and two-step experiments and assign probabilities to various outcomes. Through hands-on activities and interactive learning experiences, students will deepen their understanding of probability concepts and their practical applications.
Spanish
This term, Year Seven students have been introduced to some of the basics of the Spanish language. We have learnt different ways of greeting and introducing ourselves, classroom instructions, the Spanish alphabet, the calendar and classroom materials. We have been learning vocabulary, as well as practising language skills such as speaking, listening, and reading.
In addition to these foundational concepts, Year Seven students will soon delve into more complex topics in their Spanish language learning journey. They will have the opportunity to explore Spanish grammar, expand their vocabulary with common phrases and expressions, and practice listening and speaking skills through interactive activities and dialogues. By building upon the basics they have already mastered, students will continue to broaden their understanding and appreciation of the Spanish language and culture. With dedication and enthusiasm, they are sure to make great strides in their language proficiency and cultural awareness.
To wrap up Term One, students will participate in an interactive Google Maps activity exploring the diverse Easter celebrations in Spanish-speaking countries. They will watch videos showcasing various festivities, examine images of costumes, food, and ceremonies, and collaborate on an Escape Room challenge related to Semana Santa celebrations worldwide. The purpose of this lively and interactive activity is to stimulate curiosity, encourage exploration, and inspire a love for discovering diverse cultures.
Music
Exciting Beginnings: Music Thrives at Our School!
We are thrilled to share with you the fantastic start our music program has had this year! It's been an inspiring journey watching our students dive into the world of music, utilising new instruments and honing their skills with enthusiasm and dedication.
One of the most exciting developments is the addition of new instrumental staff starting next term. We are expanding our offerings to include a diverse range of instruments to cater to the varied interests and talents of our students. Starting next term, students will have the opportunity to learn drums, guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, voice, and piano from our talented instructors.
The introduction of these new instruments reflects our commitment to providing a comprehensive and enriching music education experience for our students. Whether they aspire to rock out on the guitar, set the rhythm on the drums, or serenade audiences with their vocals, there's something for everyone to explore and enjoy.
If you would like your child to embark on a musical journey during school time, we encourage you to take advantage of this exciting opportunity. Simply reach out to the music department or the school office to obtain an instrumental form. Please complete and return the form at your earliest convenience to secure your child's spot in the program.
Learning to play a musical instrument offers numerous benefits, including improved cognitive skills, enhanced creativity, and a greater appreciation for the arts. It's also a fantastic way for students to develop confidence, discipline, and teamwork skills while having fun and expressing themselves creatively.
We believe that every student has the potential to discover and nurture their musical talents, and we are dedicated to providing the resources and support needed to help them succeed. Together, let's continue to foster a love for music and inspire our students to reach new heights of musical excellence.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing our music program flourish as we embark on this exciting journey together!

Design Technology - Woodwork
Year Seven students have continued to develop skills in both hand and power tools this term.
Students have been working hard to file, cut and sand smooth all components for their 'Wooden Robot'.
As students worked toward 'refining' their projects, they were given a demonstration in how to use and electric sander, how to replace the sand paper on the machine, and and how to empty the dust catcher.
As always, the Year Seven students have worked in a safe and mature manner, and have certainly acquired the skill set to complete the semester with a great folio of work.
Well done to all of my Year Seven classes.
