Year Three

Dear Year Three Families,

The past few weeks have been an exciting time as our students showcased their knowledge and skills during the NAPLAN assessments. We couldn't be prouder of their hard work and resilience throughout this process.

NAPLAN

First and foremost, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all parents and guardians for their unwavering support. Your encouragement and guidance played a crucial role in helping your children feel confident and prepared. Thank you for ensuring they arrived well-rested and ready to tackle each assessment with determination.

We recognise that these assessments can be challenging, but our students approached them with enthusiasm and a growth mindset. Their positive attitudes and commitment to giving their best efforts are truly commendable.

As we move forward, we remain dedicated to foster a nurturing environment where every child can thrive academically, socially and emotionally. The NAPLAN results, while important, are just one measure of their progress, and we will continue to support each student's unique learning journey.

Thank you again for your partnership in your child's education. Together, we can celebrate their achievements and help them reach new heights.

Term 2

We're excited to kick off the new term with an immersive Aboriginal Dreamtime experience! On our first day back, students will embark on a virtual journey through the National Gallery of Victoria's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Gallery. Throughout this experience, students will discover the deep cultural significance behind various art forms, from ancient rock carvings and bark paintings to contemporary installations and multi-media works. Prepare to be inspired as we explore the powerful narratives and symbolism woven into these incredible pieces.

Reading

During our Reading sessions, students explored the powerful technique of 'visualising' to heighten their comprehension skills. By engaging their senses, they brought texts vividly to life. Students concentrated on constructing mental images, imagining sights, sounds, scents, tastes, and textures that enhanced their writing. This multisensory approach fostered deeper connections with stories, allowing the words to transport them into richly detailed worlds. Through visualisation, reading transcended mere decoding, becoming an immersive experience that unlocked deeper layers of understanding and enjoyment. Students also had the opportunity to delve deep into the assigned texts and make insightful predictions about potential plot developments and themes.

Writing

In Writing, In the Writing class, students explored the creative world of acrostic poems. These unique verses, where certain letters form a word vertically, allowed students to exercise their wordsmithing skills in a fun and engaging manner. Each student crafted their own acrostic poem, showcasing their artistic flair and mastery of language.

Mathematics

In our mathematics classes, students embarked on an engaging exploration of data analysis. Students learned the art of data collection through hands-on activities, meticulously gathering and organising information. With this data in hand, they mastered the skill of representing it visually through various types of graphs, such as bar charts, line graphs, and scatter plots. Through this experience, our young mathematicians developed a profound understanding of how data can be transformed into powerful visual narratives, equipping them with valuable analytical tools for future academic and professional endeavours.

Inquiry

During our inquiry sessions, students have demonstrated a deeper understanding of the central idea: “Patterns and colours in nature inspire creativity.” Students observed colourful art and patterns that contribute to the expression of thoughts and emotions. Furthermore, they created their own abstract art and shared their thoughts and reflections through the art they crafted.

Camp

In preparation for our annual camp from June 17th-19th, 2024, we want to thank the Year Three families who have stated whether their children were coming by listing ‘Approved’, via Xuno.

Parent helpers

We would like to extend an invitation for parents to volunteer as a parent helper for some of the exciting upcoming events and activities planned for our students.

Parent volunteers play a vital role in ensuring the success of these events by providing additional supervision and support. Your involvement not only enriches the experience for our students but also strengthens the sense of community within our school.

Reminders

We kindly remind all students to prioritise their health and safety during the warmer months by adhering to the following guidelines:

  • Staying hydrated is crucial. Bring a full water bottle to school every day to keep yourself refreshed and focused throughout the day.

Regarding educational tools and assessments:

  • iPads are essential learning devices in our classrooms. Please ensure your iPad is fully charged before coming to school, as you will need it for daily activities.

We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines, which will contribute to a safe, healthy, and productive learning environment for all.

Best Regards,

Year Three Teaching Team
