ANZAC Day

As we approach ANZAC Day in the second week of our school holidays, we reflect upon the profound significance of this day in our nation's history. ANZAC Day, commemorated annually on April 25th, honours the brave men and women who served and sacrificed their lives in the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps during World War I and subsequent conflicts. It is a day of remembrance, gratitude, and national unity.

The spirit of ANZAC encompasses values deeply intertwined with the teachings of the Catholic faith. Sacrifice, courage, and selflessness are central themes both in the stories of ANZAC soldiers and in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The ANZACs' unwavering commitment to their comrades and their willingness to lay down their lives for others echo the Christian principle of love for one's neighbour.

On ANZAC Day, as we pay tribute to the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women, we also reflect on the importance of peace and reconciliation. ANZAC Day serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for compassion, understanding, and efforts towards building a world free from conflict and division.

As a school community, let us honour the legacy of the ANZACs by embodying the values they stood for - courage, mateship, and service to others. Let us also draw inspiration from our Catholic faith to work towards a more just and peaceful world, where the sacrifices of the past are remembered, and the hopes for a brighter future are realised. Lest we forget.
