Service Learning at GSG

Service Learning is an integral part of our commitment to the broader community and a key pillar of our character development program at Great Southern Grammar. We partner with a wide range of external organisations to provide meaningful service-learning opportunities, while also encouraging students to contribute within our own school community. Whether it is seeing positive role models on the buses or older students coaching younger peers in sport, these everyday moments build a culture of giving back.

As students serve others, they gain tangible experiences that foster gratitude, humility and resilience. Service Learning also provides authentic opportunities to live out our values of Respect, Integrity, Courage, and Compassion.

This term, Camfield Day focused on raising funds for our sponsor child in Cambodia. Later in the term, Baudin Day on 26 March (dress in PINK!) will raise money for breast cancer research.

This weekend, GSG will again participate in the MSWA Swim at ALAC from 9.00am to 5.00pm. Students have volunteered to swim in relay-style teams, contributing two‑hour shifts to ensure our school remains in the water all day. Over 30 students have signed up, an outstanding demonstration of generosity and spirit. Families are warmly invited to support the GSG team through donations.

Our students have also been assembling hospital care packages for children as part of our support for The Darcy Effect during Secondary VACS lessons. In Week Eight, GSG will proudly serve as a host site for the launch of the Hawaiian Ride for Youth, which raises vital funds and awareness for youth mental health through Youth Focus.

Across the term, our Primary and Secondary School leaders have been selling icy poles on Fridays to support these initiatives, another wonderful example of whole-school involvement.

Service Learning remains a defining part of who we are as a community, shaping young people who act with empathy, courage and purpose.
