Challenge & Enrichment Program
Our Year 7 students have made a fantastic start to the Challenge and Enrichment (C&E) Program on Monday afternoons. So far, students have participated in a range of engaging activities including rebus puzzles, a Harmony Week fusion challenge, a paper tower engineering task, and a paper plane design challenge.
These activities have encouraged students to think creatively, collaborate with others, and solve problems in different ways. It has been great to see such high levels of engagement, enthusiasm, and enjoyment from students during these sessions.
Looking ahead to Term 2, students will be working on a term-long project where they will design and develop ideas that contribute to our school community. All students will be automatically included in the Monday C&E program for Term 2. If you would prefer your child not to participate, please contact the college.
In the final week of Term 2, we will be hosting a Showcase Event, where students will invite parents and community members to the college to present their work.
We look forward to continuing this exciting journey with our students.
English
During Term 1 in English, students delved into the colourful world of advertising. They learnt about strategies advertisers use to try to persuade consumers and how they can be savvy when consuming content. Students put their critical thinking skills to the test by analysing a variety of print and moving image advertisements, questioning what advertisers what us to believe. This term, we are studying Shaun Tan’s Tales From the Inner City, a collection of short stories that unpack the co-existence of humans and animals in urban environments. Students will be presenting their interpretations of stories, as well as creating their own multimodal texts.
CONFERENCES
On Thursday 14th May the College is holding our Student Led Conference Day where we are requesting all parents-carers to book a 15-minute conference with their child(s) PEARL teacher. There is no school/classes running on the day, so we are encouraging all parents/guardians make a booking.
Parents need to book via the link on Compass for the Conferences. All students are required to be in attendance for the conference as they will be sharing their reflections on their progress that they undertook in PEARL on Wednesday 13th May.
Interviews will run from 11.15am – 6.45pm on the day. The College is looking forward to the support from all parents and guardians of all students in making this Conference a priority. Information on how to book will come out in an email next week, so please keep a look out.
