Principal's Report

Welcome Back!
Term 2 is well and truly underway as we come to the end of Week 3. I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday and is recharged for another exciting term of learning.
This term, we have many new opportunities planned for growth and achievement. Schools are busy places and we have a range of events and activities planned so please keep an eye on our notices and newsletters.
ANZAC Day
Thank you to all of our students and staff for attending Uralla's ANZAC Day Parade and Service. Your presence and respectful conduct truly honoured the memory of those who have served our nation. I especially thank our primary and secondary school leaders, who represented our school with great pride and dignity, presenting the school reflection for 2026. Thank you once again to everyone involved for making the ANZAC Day ceremony a meaningful and respectful occasion.
Future Teachers Club
Next week, our Future Teachers Club (FTC) students will be participants in learning how to prepare a STEM lesson, focusing on engaging and effective teaching strategies, for students in Years 5 and 6 from across the area. Our students will join other FTC students from Armidale Secondary College and Guyra Central School to prepare their STEM lessons and then deliver them to students. This is part of a Department of Education initiative to prepare prospective high school students to be teachers.
We look forward to seeing our budding educators embrace this fantastic learning opportunity. Stay tuned for updates and reflections from our participants as they take on this rewarding challenge!
Uralla Central's Future Tradies Club
In addition to the Future Teachers Club, our school is embarking on a new program designed by our woodwork and metal tech teacher, Jason Walker. We are building a program to give future students who are interested in a trade, some skills in a range of areas. Watch this space!
Central Schools Conference
Uralla Central School hosted the Central Schools Conference this week with over 40 participants from Central Schools in the northern half of NSW. The conference was designed to bring together secondary executive staff to learn about program delivery and how to get support when working in small high school settings. Thank you to the Department of Education's Rural, Regional and Remote Schools team for choosing Uralla as the host for this year's event.
Uniforms For Cold Weather
Now that the weather is cooling down, please try and ensure children come to school dressed appropriately with warm clothing such as jumpers, jackets, and suitable layers.
While we will try and help all students, we only have a limited supply of spare jumpers available in the clothing pool. These items are intended for occasional or emergency use, so we are unable to rely on them to meet ongoing needs. Our school uniforms can be purchased at the school at any time.
Athletics Carnival - Friday 22 May
We will hold our athletics carnival on Friday 22 May. This is a change of date earlier from what we advertised last term as there was a clash with PSSA Zone Cross Country. We have since been informed that our new date will also clash with other sporting events on the day, but we will work around this by providing affected students the opportunity to compete at events at an alternate time. There are just so many sporting events allocated across the area and we have found it difficult to avoid any clashes. Thanks for your understanding.
State Swimming
We are incredibly proud to congratulate Lily Rafferty on her fantastic achievement in competing at the State Swimming Championships held recently in Sydney. Lily demonstrated outstanding dedication, hard work, and sportsmanship throughout the competition. Representing our school at such a high level is a remarkable accomplishment and serves as an inspiration to all our students.
Well done, Lily!
Golf At The State Level
We also congratulate Jett Williams on his selection on the North West team to complete at the state golf championships in Sydney in August. Jett achieved first place with 91 off the stick. Well done, Jett!
And Even More Sport Success...
Our sporting achievements continue to impress this year.
Both the Open Boys and Girls Touch Football teams have kicked off their competitions. The boys were narrowly defeated by Farrar in their gala day pool, while the girls dominated their matches and have advanced to the semi-finals. This important game will be held at our home ground, and we look forward to a strong turnout from our supporters.
We’re also excited to highlight our NW representatives in netball. Eloise Oxley is returning for her third consecutive year in the North West Open Girls Netball team.
Additionally, Brydie Williams, Ava Saint Julian, and Becky Williams have all been selected for the Open Girls NW Touch team, making it our largest group of North West representatives in a single team yet.
On the boys’ side, Jackson Davison earned selection for the Open Boys Soccer team following the NW Winter Sport Trials.
So far this year, we have the largest number of North West representatives ever, and we’re only halfway through the year!
Year 6-7 Transition Day
Just a reminder that we are inviting students in Year 6 in all of our local schools to join us for our first transition day on Wednesday 20 May. If you are aware of Year 6 students in other local schools who are considering enrolling at Uralla Central School for 2027, please encourage them to contact us.
Bus Travel To And From School
We would like to remind all families about students travelling to and from school on the bus. When students arrive at school each morning, they are expected to remain on school grounds. Leaving the premises to visit town before school is not permitted. This helps us ensure all students are supervised and safe. At home time, students should board the bus from the school grounds, not from stops in the street. We appreciate your support in reinforcing these safety measures with your children.
Attendance at School
We would like to remind our families about the crucial role that regular school attendance plays in your child’s learning and success. Attending school every day enables students to make the most of educational opportunities, build strong relationships, and develop important skills that will support them throughout their lives.
When students are present at school, they benefit from engaging lessons, collaborative activities, and consistent support from teachers. Frequent absences can impact academic progress, social connections, and confidence.
Even missing just one day here and there can make it harder to stay on track and keep up with the class.
We understand that sometimes absences are unavoidable. If your child is unwell or unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible. Otherwise, we strongly encourage families to prioritise daily attendance and help reinforce the importance of school routines.
Together, we can ensure our students are getting the most out of their education. Thank you for your ongoing support in making school attendance a priority. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s attendance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Happy Mother's Day on Sunday to all our mums!

Principal
