Our Year 10 Outdoor Education students recently enjoyed an exciting camp experience in Torquay, where they had the opportunity to build practical outdoor skills, deepen their understanding of local history, and challenge themselves through a range of activities.
During the camp, students stayed in tents, which gave them a hands on experience of outdoor environments. They also prepared and cooked their own meals using Trangia’s
A highlight of the trip was completing the Torquay Historical Walk, where students explored the history of the area and gained insight into how Torquay has developed over time. Students also completed a visit to the Australian National Surfing Museum, where students learned about the significant role surfing has played in shaping the culture and identity of the Surf Coast.

One of the most memorable parts of the camp was participating in a surfing lesson. Students welcomed the challenge with enthusiasm and had plenty of fun in the water. So many of our students caught some waves and showed off their surfing skills.
Throughout the entire camp, students were extremely well behaved and represented Homestead with pride. Their respectful attitude and willingness to support one another were commendable and made the trip an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Students are developing confidence and independence in the textiles classroom as they learn to safely and effectively use sewing machines. Through hands-on practice, they are building essential skills such as accurate cutting, seam construction, and machine control. Applying these techniques, students are designing and creating their own patchwork pillow.
