Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a high mountain by themselves. While they were there, Jesus’ appearance changed. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with him.
Peter, amazed and unsure what to say, offered to build three shelters for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said:
“This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him.”
The disciples were terrified and fell to the ground. Jesus came to them, touched them, and said, “Get up and do not be afraid.” When they looked up, they saw only Jesus.
As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus told them not to tell anyone what they had seen until after he had risen from the dead.
Summary
In this moment, the disciples see who Jesus truly is. For a brief time, the veil is lifted, and they glimpse his glory. It is a powerful, overwhelming experience — the kind of moment that changes how you see everything.
Today, we also have “mountaintop moments.” These might be times of deep prayer, retreat, joy, clarity, or peace — moments when God feels close and real. But we cannot stay on the mountain. Like the disciples, we must come back down into daily life — into school, work, family struggles, and ordinary responsibilities.
The message from the cloud is simple and clear: “Listen to him.” In a noisy world filled with opinions, pressure, and distraction, Lent invites us to quiet our hearts and listen more closely to Jesus. When we do, we begin to see our lives — and ourselves — differently.
The Transfiguration reminds us that even when life feels ordinary or difficult, God’s glory is present. We may not always see it clearly, but Jesus walks with us and tells us, “Do not be afraid.”
Reflection Question
During this season of Lent, what is one way you can create space to truly listen to Jesus in your daily life?
Prayer
Loving God,
In the busyness and noise of our lives, help us to pause and listen to your Son.
Give us courage when we are afraid, strength when we feel overwhelmed, and faith to trust you even when we cannot see clearly.
May this Lent draw us closer to you and help us reflect your light to others.
Amen.

Each day St Peter's students and staff will be walking as part of our normal routine. However there will be a difference. Each day a unit will be in charge of carrying a bucket of water. The bucket of water represents those communities who do not have access to clean water from their homes who need to walk each day just to have access to it. Caritas has some great resources on it's website that you can access at home Sisilia's story | Caritas Australia
