Thoughts from our Principal - Mrs Casey Chard
Welcome to Term 2! It has been very pleasing to see the way our students have returned to school calm, settled and ready to learn. This strong start sets the tone for a productive term ahead. We also warmly welcome Josie, Tommy and Leo to our St Joseph’s family.
On our recent pupil-free day, staff engaged in professional learning focused on understanding and responding to student behaviour. This work centred on building consistency in language and practice across the school, ensuring that all students experience predictable, supportive responses from our skilled, helpful adults. Key elements included developing a shared understanding of the ‘iceberg’ theory of behaviour, recognising that behaviour is often a reflection of underlying, unmet needs. We also spent time refining our ‘Response to Unsafe or Unproductive Behaviour’ flowchart to guide consistent, school-wide practices.
The highlight of the fortnight was undoubtedly the outstanding representation of St Joseph’s at both the ANZAC Dawn Service and later, the Commemorative Service. We were incredibly proud to have 64 students representing St Joseph’s with reverence, respect and dignity. This level of participation speaks volumes about the character of our students and the strength of our school community. I commend our staff for supporting and modelling the significance of these occasions and we thank our families for their encouragement and presence.
Attendance: Every Day Counts
Consistent attendance is the cornerstone of academic success. We ask that all students aim for 100% attendance unless prevented by illness. If your child is absent, please ensure the school is notified via the office or our Compass portal by 10:00 am.
May God bless you and your family.
