Sport report Term 1 2026

Welcome to what has already begun as a very busy term for sport at TRHS. From the first day of the year, we hit the ground running with sporting opportunities for our students to become involved in at a representative level.

In Week 3, we held our first house meeting in preparation for the upcoming swimming carnival and to select our House Prefects for 2026. Congratulations once again to our House Prefects who will be involved in annual carnivals and other house opportunities throughout the year.

Swimming

With our first carnival done and dusted, we had a positive turn out which is pleasing with many of our students getting in the spirit of swimming, but I know we can do even better next year! Our swimming carnival is not the traditional format with filled with competitive races but a day of our school community coming together for a day of enjoyment and team building through being involved in novelty races. We were fortunate the weather was kind to us for the whole day which made it perfect conditions to be in the water and amongst the fun filled activities.

It was fantastic to see house spirit making a comeback with our wonderful house prefects and the assistance of Mrs Hutchinson organising and running ‘house chants’. It was such a vibe and got the involvement of many students who displayed house pride in wanting to be the house on top. The house prefects came up with their house chants to be performed on the day and there were some very creative chants that displayed their courage and commitment to being the best house on the day.

Congratulations to BRADMAN for taking out the house chant competition for the swimming carnival. We still have two more carnivals for the other houses to aspire to and will be given some time to prepare and practice before our cross country in Term 2.

I know this has been a long and anticipated wait to find out who our winning house is from the swimming carnival.

This year we had a small number of students who were successful in progressing to zone this year. They had represented our school with pride and spirit and displayed a high level of sportsmanship throughout the day. As our school was running the day, we had Year 11 students come and assist on the day. They played an important role on the day in ensuring the carnival ran smoothly through their commitment to timekeeping. Our students worked alongside staff from other schools and developed their personal skills in working closely with them and making connections through sport.

Tuesday sport

This year we had trialled something different for when the students were making their sport selections at the beginning of the year. All students made their selections for the year at the beginning. The new process had worked as expected and it means that students had conversations with their families before making their selections to ensure the most appropriate sport was selected for each term (especially when we go offsite). In Term 4 last year, we introduced the opportunity for students to select an offsite sport option for five weeks. This was a hit with the students having a choice of something different, so this has now been extended to Terms 2 and 4 this year.

This term, all students participated onsite and took part in either competitive or non-competitive activities. Students are encouraged to try a new sport each term and to challenge themselves by engaging in a competitive option at least once during the year. Below are some reports highlighting the various sports activities that took place over the term.

Stage 4 Soccer group has been fortunate to receive weekly one-hour coaching sessions from two Football NSW coaches Matt and Owen. Their guidance has made our competition both challenging and enjoyable. Up to this point, the experience has been positive, with students remaining actively involved throughout each session.

Stage 4 Mixed sports have been engaging in various sports each week including oztag, netball, basketball, soccer, table tennis, badminton and European handball. It was so positive to see the students become involved in the different sport options each week and challenge themselves in something new. This term we also introduced a targeted group for students who required additional support in improving their capacity to become involved in different sports through targeted skill development and confidence building.

This had a positive impact on those students as they were able to demonstrate growth each week in the different modified sports. Thank you to Tiger for taking on this group and allowing a positive and free space for the students to continually grow and develop in own time and space.

Stage 5 Volleyball was a very competitive competition each week. Students demonstrated their capacity and skills each week, with some students displaying growth within the competition each week. We had some massive spikes occur each week and even bigger blocks. Special mention to Siaa who did the best block of the competition and won the point for his team off it as a bonus.

A reminder to all students that each week in competitive sport options, teachers will be awarding MVP points to 3 students who deserve the nominations. These points are collated over the term and will be recognised at the end of the year for their achievement.

The following sports will be available and running for Term 2:

Stage 4: F45, Laser Tag / Arcade, Offsite walking and mixed sports at school.

Stage 5: Laser Tag / Arcade, Golf (driving range), Offsite walking and mixed sports at school.

Students will be offsite for five weeks in Term 2 starting in Week 6 to Week 10. When students are not offsite, they will be playing different sports each week within their sport group.

State-Wide Competition

On Thursday the 9th of March 2026 the Thomas Reddall Opens Boys & Girls Basketball Team’s participated in the Macarthur Zone Basketball Knockout at Oran Park Leisure Centre. The boys team consisted of Ali, Miguel, Danilo, Dwayne, Eddie and Zechariah.

They participated in two competitive games against Elizabeth Macarthur and Picton, giving their best effort throughout each game. Despite their strong commitment and determination, the team faced worthy opponents and came up short in both contests. One player in particular, Miguel orchestrated the offense with assists and elite ball movement throughout both contests. Despite the team's losses, his court vision and all-around gameplay elevated the team and created consistent scoring opportunities. The girls team consisted of Jojo, Katana, Joyce, Amelia, Jay, Synceer, Anisa and Jolena. They participated in two competitive games and one friendly game against Elderslie and Picton. The girls team gave their best effort in all three games and despite playing competitively and displaying positive teamwork, they faced worthy opponents and where unsuccessful in the three games. Special mention to Synceer who guided the offense with sharp passing and shooting across the two main games. Though the team fell short, her court vision and complete performance lifted teammates and generated steady scoring chances.

Throughout the day, both teams maintained a fair and consistent level of play, showing sportsmanship and respect towards their opponents. Their attitude and conduct on the court were exemplary, reflecting positively on our school and deserving of recognition for the way they represented the school.

Thank you to Mr McLaren and Mrs Bray for taking time out to coach and attend the day with the two teams.

Inclusive Education opportunities

There are many different sporting opportunities for students who have a disability to participate in throughout the year. This year, I have applied for our school to take part in the following inclusive days that are run by the School Sport Unit – Disability Inclusion team: Come try athletics day, Boccia, Ten Pin Bowling, Multi sports day and Lawn Bowls.

As part of the process with supporting our students with a disability who participate in sport and/or carnivals is applying for formal classification. This provides a level playing field for our students to have the opportunity to succeed in their chosen sporting pathway. If you would like more information regarding this, please reach out to Mrs Adamson (Sports Organiser) in PDHPE.

Come and try athletics

On 17 March, our school attended the ‘Come and Try Athletics’ day at Campbelltown Athletics Centre. 17 students from the Inclusive Education Space and mainstream had attended this event. Throughout the day, students participated in a range of differentiated events, including running, discus, shot put, javelin and long jump. The event provided students with the opportunity to develop foundational athletics skills in a fun, supportive and inclusive environment. Overall, it was a highly valuable experience that students thoroughly enjoyed. A massive thank you to Mr Heylin for organising this opportunity for our students.
