Welcome Back & Staffing Update
We are excited to welcome students and staff back to school this term. We hope that you have all enjoyed your holidays and had some time to spend with your family and friends. We look forward to a productive term.
At the end of last term and the start of this term respectively, we welcomed Mr. Francisco Fariña (Spanish & Humanities) and Mr Taylor Lidstone (English & Humanities) to Horsham College. This week we also say farewell to Year 7 Leading Teacher Mrs. Jess Wright who will begin her maternity leave, and we wish her the best.
Miss Bec Cope will be fulfilling the role of Year 7 Leading Teacher, and Miss Holly Ruwoldt is now the Year 9 Year Level Coordinator.
ANZAC Day
We commemorated ANZAC Day with a whole school Anzac Service on Friday which was led by our student leaders. Students and staff were able to pay their respects with a minute of silence for our fallen service men and women. We are so proud of all students that represented Horsham College in a variety of ANZAC services on the day. Lest We Forget.
Grade 6 Information Evening
Wednesday the 29th of April was Horsham College’s annual Grade 6 Information Evening. Thank you to the Year 7 Team, led by Mr Liam Price (Assistant Principal), Mrs Jessica Wright & Miss Bec Cope (Year 7 Leading Teacher), Miss Maia Blair, and Miss Belle Healey (Year 7 Coordinators) and to Ms Heather Deayton, our Transitions Coordinator, for their collaboration and commitment in both the lead up to the event and on the night. It was a fantastic evening, and the quality of the displays and presentations made me even more proud to be a part of Horsham College. Thank you to all the staff who assisted either in setting up, attending, or presenting on the evening.
I must also thank the parents, guardians and students who attended. As mentioned on the night, I encourage you all to take a tour of the school when classes are running to help decide which school best suits your child. If you are unable to attend a scheduled tour, please contact our administration office on 5381 7100 to arrange another time.
Industrial Action
As parents and carers know, staff at our school who are members of the Australian Education Union (AEU) have been involved in long-running negotiations with the state government and the Department of Education for improved pay and conditions.
Alongside of the information already sent regarding the half day stop work (19th of May) another approved industrial action is that AEU members are not required to provide written comments on work or assessments to parents/carers from the start of Term 2. The ban does not include providing feedback to students, and no student will be disadvantaged as a result of this protected action. Numerical scores will still be available on SEQTA and will also be available on reports. Not all teachers will choose to take this action; it is an AEU members individual’s right to choose. I ask that students, parents, and carers respect this protected right, and do not question staff regarding this.
We will continue to keep families informed about any action that may affect our school community.
Curriculum – Student Free
On Wednesday 6th of May, Horsham College will have a student free curriculum day. All classes Year 7 – 12, including McKenzie Creek and Dimboola Road classes will be cancelled on this day. VET classes will run as normal. Students participating in a VET subject at Horsham College are advised that the canteen will be closed on this day, and students will need to bring their own lunch.
Lowes Uniform Voucher Winner
We would like to extend our congratulations to Chassidy Lorensco, the lucky recipient of a $300 Lowes voucher. Chassidy’s name was randomly selected from the list of families who made a Curriculum Contribution by the end of Term 1. Well done, Chassidy.
We would also like to sincerely thank all families who have made a curriculum contribution this year. Your support makes a massive difference, and these funds go directly towards essential classroom consumables and resources that help provide our students with a high-quality education and support them to excel in their learning, including the cost of materials associated with Science, Home Economics, and Technology.
State schools provide students with free instruction to fulfil the standard Victorian curriculum, and we assure you that all contributions are voluntary. The College Council and School Leadership team is very proud to be able to continue to provide a high-quality education and experience to our students at a low cost, however without these contributions we would not be able to offer the broad range of subjects we do.
Below are the amounts applicable for students for 2026:
Years 7 - 9: $335
Years 10 - 12: $360
Voluntary Curriculum Contributions directly support your child’s education. If you are happy to contribute, payments can be made using QKR or in person at the Administration Office.
