We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People of the Kulin nation; past, present and those who will walk with us into the future. We acknowledge the rich and unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas, educational practices and the hopes of all First Nations Peoples. We do this in the spirit of reconciliation as we move to a place of justice and partnership - together we work, learn, play and care for one another and this land.

Community Afternoon

It was wonderful to welcome so many families and friends to our Open Classrooms last night. Seeing all classrooms crowded with loved ones celebrating work and chatting with teachers was really heartwarming and a reminder for our students that they have a team of supporters cheering them on. Congratulations to our students and staff who had so much to celebrate already, in just 3 and a half weeks of school!

This year we then held a parent information session, hosted by Kirsty Lush from Real Schools. Kirsty had so many words of wisdom for us about raising resilient children and she also shared some very useful resources around anxiety and parenting as well. I want to give a big shout out to teachers who made this event possible by offering activities for children in their year levels. We know that juggling after-school parenting responsibilities can make it difficult to attend these sessions so having this on offer for children was a welcome bonus. We were thrilled that so many parents and carers were able to join us for the session. We hope to replicate this event with another great guest speaker early next year.

A big thank you to our Parents and Friends team who provided fruit and nibbles for parents attending the information session. Thank you for always thinking of ways to make our events so special.

Farewell Mrs Steele

This Friday at assembly we will be farewelling Mrs Bron Steele. Mrs Steele has been successful in gaining a Learning Specialist position at another school where she will be out of the classroom full time leading improvement in learning and pedagogy. This is a huge testament to Bron's skill and passion and whilst we are very excited for her taking this leap, we will also miss her impact at Kalinda.

Bron has worked at Kalinda for nearly 20 years and over that time has made a huge impact on both the teaching and learning programs as well as student wellbeing and Positive Education. We know that Bron will always have a special spot in her heart for Kalinda and we look forward to her being part of our community going forward.

Team Kids

It has been wonderful getting to know Sam, Matt and the team. Every morning and afternoon the multi-purpose room is buzzing with something on offer for everyone! If you are interested in finding out more about our before and after school care program, please pop in to say hi to the staff from Team Kids.

STEM fundraiser on QKR - Chocolate Drive

We are running an opt-in ‘Chocolate Drive’ to raise money for the next steps in our STEM Community Plastic Recycling 3D Printing Program. The program aims to develop the tools for students to process plastics that have been brought in from the community and recycle them into plastic thread that can then be used to 3D print their creations. This project aims to teach students a range of practical scientific skills, learning about sustainability and making a difference in our local community.

We really appreciate any families who are willing to be involved through selling chocolates to workmates, friends, family or relatives to make this possible. Boxes of Cadbury chocolates are available to be pre-purchased on QKR by families, who are then encouraged to sell them on to others. This is opt-in and we appreciate anyone who is able to make a contribution.
