From the classroom

This term of learning

As we begin our school year, our focus is on fostering a community of readers and writers within our school. Classes have spent time setting up their routines around the reading, writing as well as the maths workshops. We have a consistent approach to teaching right across our school which helps students learn in a predictable, safe environment. Our inquiry topic for the term is Health and Wellbeing. We are focussing on introducing and building solid foundations in the Resillience Project work to set us up for good habits and practices for the school year.

Tutor Learning Initative

This year the Tutor Learning Initiative will be integrated into our Years 3-6 classrooms. This program is designed to provide targeted support for students, helping them build confidence and strengthen their literacy and numeracy skills in a way that complements their regular classroom learning.

Through small-group work our experienced tutor, Ms Trickey, will work closely with students to reinforce key concepts, address learning gaps, and extend their understanding in a supportive and engaging environment. The program will be flexible, ensuring that all students receive the right level of support tailored to their individual needs. By working alongside classroom teachers, Ms Trickey will help students develop strategies that foster independence, problem-solving, and a love for learning.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this initiative on our students’ learning journeys.

Mini Lit Program

Mini Lit Program is structured and engaging early literacy initiative designed to support your child’s reading and writing skills. The program focuses on foundational literacy elements such as phonemic awareness, letter recognition, and vocabulary development through fun, interactive activities.

Mini Lit helps children build the confidence and skills they need to become successful readers. This program is run by our trained ‘Mini Lit’ tutors – Ms Trickey, Monique Keech and Rebecca Pearse.

Rochester Show

Well done to our students that are having their work displayed at the Rochester Show this weekend. Thanks to Mrs McPhee for the time and effort she has put in to get this display together. Make sure you get to the show to check it out!

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) for 2025 is scheduled to take place from March 12 to March 24. This annual assessment evaluates the literacy and numeracy skills of students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 across Australia.

All tests will be conducted online, except for Year 3 writing, which remains paper-based. This format is familiar to the students as we use online tools for school assessments.

The assessment covers four areas: reading, writing, conventions of language, and numeracy

NAPLAN provides valuable insights into student progress, helping identify strengths and areas for improvement. It also helps the school set goals to improve moving foward. It's important to remember that NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school's assessment process.

Further information has been sent home to grade 3's and 5's today.
