School Attendance

School Attendance
As we start 2025, it is timely to reflect on the critical role that regular school attendance plays in the education, wellbeing, and future success of our children. Consistent attendance not only supports academic achievement but also fosters social and developmental growth, ensuring students are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive.
Why Attendance Matters
Daily attendance and arriving to school on time is fundamental to student success. Research has shown that even small amounts of absence can have a significant impact on a child's learning and development. The number of days a student can ‘get away with’ before their progress is affected is zero. Everyday counts and building a habit of regular attendance from an early age sets the foundation for lifelong success.
Children who attend school consistently are more likely to:
- Stay on track academically, avoiding gaps in their learning.
- Develop strong social connections and peer relationships.
- Build resilience and a positive attitude towards learning.
- Achieve better health and employment outcomes later in life.
What to Do if Your Child is Unwell
If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, please update XUNO through the app with their absence details. When entering this information, we ask that you upload any medical certificates if available. Alternatively please contact the office.
Family Holidays
We understand the value of family holidays, however, we strongly encourage families to schedule these breaks during school holidays rather than during term time. Please contact the office and/or your child's teacher if you know you will be away so we can prepare and support your child's learning.
It’s a shared Responsibility
We are committed to supporting students and encouraging attendance at school but we cannot do this alone, fostering regular attendance is a shared responsibility that requires the active involvement and support of parents and caregivers.
Strategies Encouraging Attendance
We have several strategies in place to encourage school attendance and thank students who make the effort to be at school each day they can. These include our-
Whole school Attendance Ladder
(awarded monthly to the class on top of the ladder and the class with the least unexplained absences).
