Literacy Learning:

During our Literacy lessons this term we have studied the text 'Are We there Yet?' by Alison Lester, to develop our reading, writing, comprehension skills and develop our humanities understandings.

The story follows a family's trip around Australia. We followed along and marked our own maps. We have learned about a lot on new places all over Australia and developed our summary skills. We ended the term by researching one of the places we read about and creating a postcard from that place.

Mathematics Matters:

Fluency has continued this year which gives the students the ability to consolidate their learnings around frequently used topics such as place value.

The students have been working hard this term in Mathematics across multiple topics:

-Time

-Addition and Subtraction

-Place Value

They have learned how to read 12 and 24 hour time, using digital and analogue clocks, multiple mental and written strategies to solve addition and subtraction equations and recognise, represent and order natural numbers up to 10,000.

Swimming  Scenes:

Our swimming lessons took place in Week 5 at Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre in Kangaroo Flat. Student participation was fantastic and staff were so impressed with the display of school values we saw on each and every lesson. When we surveyed the classes at the end of the week, just about every single student could tell us how their swimming had improved in some capacity. Of course, the Fun Friday at the end of the week was popular as ever! As the photo below shows...

Harmony Day Happenings:

On Friday 21st March, our school participated in Harmony Day by wearing orange. This day to celebrate that in Australia everyone belongs and to celebrate our cultural diversity.

Why the colour orange?

Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Australians can choose to wear something orange during Harmony Week to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.
