For Term 1, Year 7 students will undertake RESPECT during their HPE classes developing social and emotional literacy. Both year 8 & 9 students will begin Term 1 by extending their emotional literacy; identifying and describing emotions in themselves and others.
The Year 8s will then focus on learning ways to manage stress, while Year 9 students will begin to explore the ways that gender norms and stereotypes can affect mental health outcomes. Incorporated into the program at each year is the resilience project principle of GEM to support students to build resilience.
Our wonderful Year 10 Student Peer Support Leaders have had a busy start to the term. They have provided ongoing support to our new Year 7 students, assisting them to adapt to high school expectations, get to know their peers and navigate our multi-level campus. The leaders have run sessions to share key information and facilitate games, while being a friendly face for the Year 7 students. This support continued as some of our Year 10 leaders joined the Year 7s on their first high school camp. We thank our Year 10 students for taking on this leadership role within our school and we hope the Year 7 students have found their support helpful during their transition to high school.
The year of the snake has begun. The snake is a symbol of intelligence and renewal, with the wood snake in 2025 bringing opportunities for growth and change. On Friday 7th February we held a Lunar New Year Celebration which included lunch time activities such as red packet riddles, calligraphy practice, a jellybean chopstick challenge and creating a new year vision board. Thank you to the students who helped to organise the event and all who participated to celebrate at BHHS.
Students who would enjoy a peaceful space at lunchtime are warmly welcome to the Wellbeing Hub Activities 1.15pm-1.45pm daily.
We wish Felicity Shiel-Jones, Student Wellbeing Leader, all the best as she starts her maternity leave this term and spends the rest of the year with her family.
While Felicity is away, Gemma Anderson has stepped in to take on the Student Wellbeing Leader role.
