Grade 1 and 2

As we mark the completion of the first four weeks of Term 1, we are delighted to share how well our Grade 1 and 2 students have settled into the school year. It’s been a busy, exciting start, with students diving into their lessons and becoming fully engaged with the curriculum.

In these early weeks, our students have been immersed in a range of activities designed to develop their skills across all subjects. We’ve been especially impressed with their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn!

As we continue our journey through the term, we look forward to watching them grow in confidence and skills. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure a successful and enriching year ahead.

Literacy

Grade 1 and 2 students have been working hard to develop their narrative writing skills. They are learning how to plan and structure a story effectively, focusing on key features that make a narrative engaging for readers. Students are exploring the essential components of a narrative, including the beginning (introduction), middle (rising action/problem), and end (resolution). One of the most exciting aspects of narrative writing is our focus on vivid vocabulary. Students are learning to use descriptive language that paints a clear picture in the reader’s mind, adding depth and interest to the events of the story. They are encouraged to think creatively and structure events that are engaging. These events help drive the story forward and captivate the audience.

As our students continue to grow as storytellers, they will develop confidence in their writing and enjoy expressing their ideas with more detail and imagination.

Grade 2 students have also enjoyed learning how to logon to Google classroom, create a Goggle doc and start publishing their first narrative. They have showed lots of patience whilst navigating new platforms and are quickly learning how to accurately type in their passwords and find their way on laptops.

Numeracy

Grade 2 students will be working on place value across the next few weeks, learning that the value of a number changes depending on its place. We have been making number expanders which we turned into jellyfish and practised reading 3 digit numbers, identifying how many hundreds, tens and ones in each number. We have enjoyed playing mastermind as a class and in pairs and we have used lots of manipulatives to help us with our learning. Mastermind is fun and easy to play at home. Here is the link if you would like to have a go at home:

This week in class, Grade 1Z had a lot of fun playing math strategy and automatic recall games! These activities are designed to help reinforce our skills in addition and subtraction, place value, and recognizing patterns in number. The maths games gives students the chance to practice these important numeracy concepts in a hands-on, engaging way.

It's always great to see the students enjoying math while also strengthening their understanding of these foundational skills.

Parent Teacher Meet

It was a pleasure meeting and chatting with all our parents and students during our Tuesday afternoon BBQ. We enjoyed getting to know each of you better and sharing some wonderful moments about your children's experiences at school. Thank you for taking the time to connect with us. If you didn't get a chance to catch up and would like to, please remember our doors are always open.

Resilience Project

Grade 1Z enjoyed participating in the recent Resilience Project activities. One of the highlights was using their very own meditation keychains, which are designed to reflect various meditation techniques suited to each child's individual needs.

Wellbeing experiences not only help our students learn new ways to focus and relax, but it also gives them an opportunity to connect with mindfulness practices that can be used anytime.
