Foundation (Prep)

Thank you to TheirCare for hosting our Meet the Teacher BBQ this year. We'd also like to thank Mrs Bailey and Mrs Dibb's daughters for offering face painting for the children - it was a huge hit!
Prep C is quickly becoming familiar with their new school routine. This fortnight we have enjoyed visiting the library and our specialist classes. Our buddies continue to be a great support in the playground and many of the students have now competed their Wednesday, Prep Entry Interview.
English
Building on our knowledge of what a word is, we have started to learn about rhyming words and syllables. The students have completed a range of activities to practice rhyming, including sorting activities, songs and reading books to identify rhyme. We have also introduced syllables. Students have practised clapping the parts of words to show how many syllables a word has.
Maths
The students are building on the work we did last fortnight. Some are working with counting collections to 10 and then those who are confident have been extended to 20 and beyond, where appropriate. We have focused on using 1:1 correspondence when counting, finding the missing number in a sequence up to 10 or 20 and practised the correct formation of numerals to 20.
Perceptual Motor Program (PMP)
The co-curricular program for the Prep students this term involves participating in a Perceptual Motor Program (PMP).
What does the program do?
- Helps students develop gross and fine motor skills
- Improves eye-hand and eye-foot coordination
- Helps students develop a sense of balance and fitness
- Helps students develop spatial awareness and language skills
- Helps students develop a positive self-image
What does the program help with?
- Helps students develop the skills they need to be more active and independent
- Helps students develop the skills they need to read, write, and master more complex skills
- Helps students develop the skills they need to interact confidently with their environment
The program consists of rotating stations which focus on different motor skills. Thank you to the parents that joined us to help at each of the activities.
Have a nice weekend!
Mrs Callaway
