Curriculum Day - Staff PL

Mathematics Professional Learning Day
On Curriculum Day this Friday 7th March, all teaching staff will be taking part in a full day of professional learning focussing on the teaching and learning of Mathematics. At BPS we want out maths learning to be engaging, challenging, meaningful and well matched to the needs of the children. It is vital we stay abreast of what current research identifies as best practice to ensure the best outcomes for our students.
We will be working with consultant Elise Copsey from the Mathematical Association of Victoria on Friday. Our priorities for the day will be:
- Connecting our current approach to maths with the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0
- Explicit teaching in mathematics
- The “Launch, Explore, Summarise” approach to teaching and learning mathematics
- Collaborative planning for consistent practice and assessment
We are also sure to come away with some practical ideas for games and activities we can try out in our classrooms right away, so students should expect some excited and inspired teaching in mathematics in the months ahead!
Elise will return to BPS several times throughout the year to model great maths teaching in our classrooms and work with teaching teams.
If you are looking for some ideas for fun games to play at home that support mathematical learning from Foundation to Year 6 (maybe over the long weekend!) you might like to check out this website: https://www.lovemaths.me/
