Principal's Report

Dear Maffra Secondary College Families,
Students and Community Members,
We have a big week ahead of us with our school review happening on Wednesday and Thursday and then a student free day on Friday. The final day of the review will be next Monday where we develop our new Strategic Plan and set our targets that will become our focus on for the next 4 years.
This week we will have our reviewer, two challenge partners and the Senior Education Improvement Leader onsite for the review. They will be going into classrooms on Wednesday and Thursday and they will be looking for a range of things that make classrooms effective, as well as talking to the students about their learning and how they know if they are being successful. During the review they will also be running focus groups with students from each year level, staff and parents.
We have really focused on improving student learning, engagement and wellbeing since we came out of COVID in 2022 and this week we will be able to celebrate lots of these things as well as identify the things that we need to continue to improve on to make this the best school we can for everyone here and for all the new students and staff that will join us in future years.
Uniform
I would like to thank our parents/carers for the improvement we have seen in our school uniform. Whilst there are still a few black items of clothing going around, we are really pleased to see a much better focus on this. Most of the black items are long sleeve tops that are being worn under the school t-shirt but without a school jumper over the top. Layering up is fine when it is cold, but it doesn’t replace a school jumper – it is an additional layer of clothing to keep our students warm, but they still need to wear their school t-shirt and jumper. If you need any support with uniform, we are more than happy to help and can organise a jumper or jacket for your child if needed. Please do not hesitate to contact the school and speak with Tracey Shelton or the front office if you need.
Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey
The 2025 Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey will be available to complete online in the coming weeks. The survey seeks feedback on school climate, community engagement in learning, teaching practices for student engagement and outcomes, and attitudes towards school attendance.
Last years data showed significant improvement placing us above similar schools in all 6 modules and above the State in 5 out of 6 modules. We ask that all families that receive this link, please take the time to complete the survey and share your thoughts with us.
Kind regards,
Ms. Jennifer Roep
