Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,

Welcome back everyone!

It has been lovely to hear all the stories of how families spent their school holiday break. All in all it seems to have been a restful time for most that allowed time for connections and catch ups as well as some fun adventures.

My family had a city stay for a few nights and it was lovely to spend time in the heart of beautiful Melbourne. My daughter, Mila, had her first Queen Victoria Market experience, which she thoroughly enjoyed and we attended the stage show performance of Annie, The Musical. As a budding performer herself, she was enchanted by the skills and abilities of all the cast, but especially the children... and the Duke-like dog!

With a 9 week term that leads us into spring school holidays, we look forward to a productive and successful term of learning.

Next week our Foundation students will celebrate 100 days of school.

This milestone marks the completion of the first 100 days of formal schooling. Acknowledging this event allows schools, students and families to reflect on the learning and achievements of the first term and a half of the school year. It's a chance for students to showcase their progress and for schools and families to celebrate the students' successes. We look forward celebrating with our Foundation students and teachers on Wednesday.

Staffing

Congratulations to Justin Lania for his appointment as principal of Wollert Primary School. We thank Justin for his leadership and contributions to community, staff development and teaching and learning whilst assistant principal and acting principal here at HPS.

Justin remains a parent in our school community and we look forward to his continued connection with our school.

All the best Justin, Wollert PS are very lucky to have you leading them.

Building Works

We certainly noticed some changes upon arriving back from school holidays this week!

A lot of works have occurred over the break, including;

  • Contaminated soil from top oval safely removed
  • Preparation for the relocatable buildings to be moved into new positions
  • De commissioning of the relocatable buildings well underway
  • Demolition of the Multi-purpose hall and canteen
  • Portion of playground and 2 shade sails removed
  • Shelter Shed and astro turf to old basketball area removed

Thank you to our families, staff and students for their patience, flexibility and understanding as we readjust to the changes and short term implications resulting from them.

3 Way Conferences

Three-way conferences involve teachers, students, and parents discussing student's progress and goals. These conferences focus on student reflection, goal setting, and collaborative problem-solving, shifting the traditional parent-teacher meeting to one where the student is actively involved and taking ownership of their learning.

Key aspects of 3-way conferences:

  • Student-centred:

The student is at the centre of the conversation, sharing their work, reflecting on their learning and past goals, and setting new goals.

  • Collaborative:

Teachers, students, and parents work together to assess progress, identify areas for improvement, discuss strategies and plan future steps.

  • Strengthening partnerships:

These conferences promote communication and collaboration between parents, teachers, and students, fostering a supportive learning environment.

  • Enhanced learning:

By actively participating in the conference, students take ownership of their learning and are more likely to be motivated to achieve their goals.

Families will be able to book a 10 minute 3 way conference time on either Tuesday 19th August from 3.40-7.00pm OR Thursday 21st August from 3.40-5.30pm.

Bookings will open on Compass Tuesday 5th August from 4.00pm.

Please note: 3 Way conferences for students in Year 1, Room 5 with Sarah Santaera will instead be held Monday 4th August 3.40-4.40pm and Tuesday 5th August 2.00-5.00pm.
