Term 3 2025
Welcome back to Visual Arts!
In Term 3 we focus on 3D and textural artwork. This year we are experimenting with sculpture and modelling techniques.
Years 5 and 6
Senior students are starting with wire sculptures based on continuous line drawings. Students will determine the best way to display their finished design - either hanging or attached to a stand. They will then be exploring the various techniques and uses for polymer clay. Projects will include trinket/coin dishes, pendants, beads, and keychains. These projects will combine traditional clay work and jewellery-making techniques.
Years 3 and 4
Year 3/4 will be using different types of air-drying clay for their sculptural artwork. The first project is a snow globe using modelling clay to create a waterproof figurine using basic modelling and colour mixing techniques. Students will explore slab construction and texture to make a fish with air-dry clay. They will also experiment with foil armature (structure) to sculpt imaginative creatures with paper clay.
Years 1 and 2
In Year 1 and 2 students will be using paper as the main sculptural material. They will create paper sculptures inspired by the work of American Artist, Charles McGee, by cutting and gluing strips of patterned paper. Papier Mache animal masks will take up the bulk of the art-making time this term. Students will work in pairs to create the base of the mask over a balloon, before building up the animal features individually, and finally painting to bring the mask to life.
Foundation
Foundation will be focusing on collage and colour this term. Students will continue to practise cutting and sticking skills and experiment with how well different materials stick together. They will learn about primary and secondary colours, and practise colour mixing with different materials. Students will also explore a variety of materials for printing and stamping.
I will be changing over some of the art displays as new artwork is finished to show off all of the wonderful creations!
