Dear students, families and staff of Cheltenham Primary School,
This year marks the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week (6-13 July), which generally falls in our school holiday period. This year's theme was “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.” It invites us to honour the resilience and leadership of Elders, celebrate the emerging talents of our youth, and recognise how past generations have shaped a strong foundation for the future. Throughout our school, students engage in activities exploring First Nations art, storytelling, music, and community voices—learning how the legacy of culture and vision will continue to evolve. This week our Year 1 and 2 students enjoyed a Wanyara Storytelling incursion which combined cultural practices, traditions, languages, laws and songs to help the children understand the air, the land, the universe, the people, the culture and the history of Indigenous Australians.
Celebrating 100 Days of School
Yesterday our Foundation students reached an exciting milestone — 100 days of school! The children enjoyed a wonderful day of activities to celebrate their incredible learning journey so far. From the very first day, they have grown in confidence, built strong friendships, and embraced new challenges with enthusiasm. We are so proud of all they have achieved in their first 100 days, and we look forward to seeing their curiosity and love of learning continue to flourish throughout the year.
Steam Expos Years 3-6
Students in Years 3-6 showcased their creativity and critical thinking through our STEAM Problem-Based Learning Expos. Working collaboratively, they explored real-world problems and designed innovative solutions, drawing on their skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. The Expos are a wonderful celebration of student curiosity, teamwork, and problem-solving. It was wonderful to see the pride with which students presented their projects. Thank you to our families who came along to share in the learning — your support makes these experiences even more meaningful.
Specialist Curriculum Overviews
Today’s newsletter includes all of our specialist learning overviews for Term 3. We encourage you to take some time to read through them and celebrate the rich and varied learning taking place across the school.
Parent- teacher meetings
Thank you to all families who attended scheduled Parent–Teacher Meetings for Semester 1. These conversations play such an important role in celebrating student achievements, sharing progress, and goal setting moving forward. As a school we value the strong partnership between home and school and the opportunity to work together to support every child’s learning and wellbeing. A sincere thank you to our dedicated staff, who prepared so thoroughly and engaged thoughtfully in these important discussions.
NAPLAN 2025
We are very proud of the efforts and achievements of all our Year 3 and 5 students in the National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy.
Individual student reports for Year 3 and 5 students were received by the school last week. They were reviewed by Year 3 and 5 teachers and uploaded to Compass this week.
In the near future, we will distribute a summary report through Compass, which will provide an overview of our school’s outstanding results.
Nude Food Wednesdays are back!
Each Wednesday we encourage students to bring a Nude Food lunch, which means food packed without disposable wrappers or single-use plastics. Choosing Nude Food helps reduce waste, care for our environment, and promote healthy eating. Simple swaps—like using reusable containers, drink bottles and snack boxes—make a big difference. Thank you to families for supporting this initiative led by our Environmental Leaders and helping our students learn how small changes can have a positive impact on our planet.
Ground works
Synthetic Turf
The ground is still damp in patches from rain. The new turf cannot be laid until it is dry to avoid depressions. The contractors will continue to re-assess and we will advise when laying commences.
The Oval
The Reseed Group laid seed across the oval 12 mm deep on the 6-8 July. At a site meeting prior to the commencement of Term 3, I was thrilled to see the seed had germinated with new growth evident in all areas - particularly those, previously bare.
Stairs to the Performing Arts Room
The concrete landing on the stairs to the Performing Arts Room that was cracked and a tripping hazard, was fully replaced last Friday.
