Hello Everyone,
Welcome to Term 3!
What a hectic start to the term, with swimming for the majority of this week and for all of next week.
Glasses for Kids Program
All students in Year Foundation to Year 3 will receive information about this program next week. This program asks you to register your child in the program so that they can have FREE vision screening, testing and your child will be given glasses if needed. There is no cost to the program and all testing will take place at school.
The program will be held at school in November, however, we do ask that you register your child asap once you receive the information, to assist in the planning for the delivery.
Please note: This program is available only to students from Foundation to Year 3.
Pride and Integrity Raffle
This raffle, recognizes all of the students who are attending school on time. This is to acknowledge the students demonstrating Pride and Integrity by being ready to learn each day.
Every student who is at school, and in their classroom, before the bell (9am) will have their name added to the class attendance box. So, if they are present on time, every day of the week, they will have 5 entries into the raffle.
This raffle will be begin this week, with the first round of winners being announced on Friday.
2025 Term 3 Challenge of the Week
Week 1: Word Web Challenge
This week’s topic for the challenge is The Country.
You need to find as many words as possible related to the topic/word in the centre of the web. You can continue the web as much as you can.
I will have an example of Word Web for people to view, just outside of the office, to help explain how to do.
You must collaborate with at least one other person (a friend, parent, classmate, etc) and no more than 3 other people. If you do not collaborate, you will not receive a Caught You Doing Right card for Collaboration.
Kind regards,

NAPLAN Results Released
We’re proud to share that the 2025 NAPLAN results have now been released to schools—and once again, we are celebrating outstanding achievement by our students at Deer Park West PS!
In March, students in Years 3 and 5 completed five assessments in the areas of Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Grammar and Punctuation, and Spelling.
We’re thrilled to report that in all five areas, our school results show our students are outperforming both Similar Schools (schools of a similar profile to ours) and other schools in our network (schools in the Deer Park and Sunshine area).
The tables below provide a comparison of our results in 2025 against Similar Schools and Network Schools. State and National comparisons are expected to be released in August.
Year 3 Results – Percentage of students who achieved in the Strong or Exceeding Proficiency Level
Deer Park West PS | Similar Schools | Network Schools
Reading | 78% | 57% | 64% |
Writing | 85% | 72% | 75% |
Maths | 67% | 51% | 57% |
Spelling | 75% | 56% | 59% |
Grammar and Punctuation | 64% | 44% | 49% |
Year 5 Results – Percentage of students who achieved in the Strong or Exceeding Proficiency Level
Deer Park West PS | Similar Schools | Network Schools
Reading | 74% | 62% | 68% |
Writing | 74% | 65% | 68% |
Maths | 66% | 55% | 60% |
Spelling | 65% | 64% | 64% |
Grammar and Punctuation | 54% | 51% | 52% |
We are also pleased to see that our results have remained consistently strong over the past three years, since changes were made to how NAPLAN is reported. For example, as shown in the chart below, at least 82% of our Year 3 students have achieved results in the Strong or Exceeding category for Writing each year.
Individual NAPLAN reports for students will be sent home with families later this week.
These reports provide a snapshot of your child’s performance in each of the five assessed areas: Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar & Punctuation, and Numeracy. We encourage you to take the time to read through the report and celebrate your child’s efforts.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s results further, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
Kind regards,
Joshua Fielding
