Principal's Report

We’ve had a cold yet positive start to Term 3, and preparations are well underway for our much-anticipated Flavours of the World event next Wednesday, 30th July.

The celebration will begin with an assembly at 12pm sharp in the hall, followed by an immersive, roving experience where each class will showcase a different culture. We are incredibly excited about this event and look forward to the powerful and meaningful messages that will be shared by our Grade 6 leaders (please see times and schedule attached in the LINK this week). We are looking forward to having parents, grandparents, friends and family members join us in this wonderful celebration.

Last term, School Council invited all parents/carers to complete a feedback survey on the current roads situation and desired changes. Thank you to the 87 families who took the time to complete the survey and share their insights. The results are in and ready to be shared. We have an incredibly proactive team of school councillors who are advocating for improved conditions. School Council have met with Warrnambool City Council this week and are looking forward to sharing updates with you all soon.

Please see a summary of your feedback below. The information you have provided has been forwarded to Warrnambool City Council for consideration.

Staffing update

As of Week 2, Mr Jeremy Gillies will be stepping into the role of whole school Learning and Curriculum Leader, replacing Mrs Evelyn Baulch for the remainder of the term. We are grateful to Mr Gillies for taking on this important leadership position.

During this time, there will be a temporary change to the teaching arrangements for 6G:

We welcome Ms Dearbhla McDermott (pronounced Dervla), who will teach 6G on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Mrs Lexi Cooper will teach the class on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Ms Hannah Davis will also work in Mr Richardson's class each Thursday. We warmly welcome Ms McDermott to the WEPS team.

NAPLAN data has arrived and we are in the process of preparing individual student results to send home to parents. While NAPLAN results provide a valuable snapshot of student learning and help us evaluate the impact of our teaching and learning processes, we recognise that there is so much more to education. At our school, we are committed to supporting the whole child by focusing on all aspects of growth - academic, social, emotional, and personal development.

We look forward to celebrating our students’ NAPLAN achievements and will also use the results to identify and share areas for growth later this year. This forms part of our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and whole-school development.

Everyone in the school community has a right to a safe and healthy learning environment and workplace. All school staff have a right to feel safe at work, and protected from any aggression, violence or behaviour that presents a safety risk.

The department’s Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy describes the positive behaviour expected from parents, carers, and other adults in Victorian school communities. The policy sets clear standards of behaviour to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for students, staff and adults.

There are also resources to support safe and respectful relationships in our school community, including information about getting involved in the school, advice on how to raise a concern or complaint, and parenting support resources. You can find the policy and these resources here.

You may also see posters up around our school, promoting positive behaviour.

We are fortunate to have a supportive and respectful school community, with minimal negative experiences. Thank you for your ongoing respect towards our staff. It is important for everyone to continue upholding these expectations to maintain a positive and safe environment for all.

A final reminder that enrolments for Foundation 2026 are due tomorrow – Friday 25th July. Please submit your enrolment form via email or to the office if you have a younger child starting foundation no later than tomorrow.

I am attaching the Engagement and Wellbeing Policy along with the Inclusion and Diversity Policy for your review as part of our community consultation process.

We value your feedback and invite you to email any comments or suggestions by COB Thursday, 31st July to marina.milich@educaiton.vic.gov.au.

Thank you for your participation in helping us create a supportive and inclusive school environment.
