Wellbeing Focus Term 3 - Persistence
At St Michael’s, our wellbeing focus for this term is persistence.
We want our students to become persistent learners - children who don’t give up easily, who face challenges with courage, and who keep trying even when things get tough.
Why persistence matters:
✅ It helps children build confidence and independence
✅ It teaches resilience—bouncing back after setbacks
✅ It improves problem-solving skills
✅ It lays the foundation for success in learning and life
How we’re supporting persistence at school:
🧠 Encouraging a “try again” mindset
👏 Celebrating effort, not just results
🎯 Setting small goals and working step-by-step
🤝 Modelling how to stay calm and ask for help when needed
Ways you can support persistence at home:
- Praise your child for effort, not perfection: “I’m proud of how you kept trying!”
- Share stories about a time when you had to stick with something difficult
- Break down big tasks into smaller steps so they feel manageable
- Remind them that mistakes are part of learning
Let’s work together to help every child at St Michael’s become a confident, capable, and persistent learner!

Message from Ange
Dear families,
When you enrolled your child at St. Michael's School, you would have been informed that we follow Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL). PBL supports student safety and wellbeing and ultimately provides individuals with the tools to make responsible and respectful decisions in their relationships with others and themselves.
Please see the PBL handbook to refresh your understanding of PBL at St Michael's.
If you have any questions regarding student wellbeing please email me at angela.flint@smnthmelbourne.catholic.edu.au or come and chat to me in the yard.
