Year 5/6 - Newsletter

Dear Year 5/6 Parents,
We hope this newsletter finds you well and that you had a fantastic break with your children. As we embark on the exciting journey of Term 3, we would like to take this opportunity to share some important information about the upcoming term.
Writing Focus: Information Reports
In English, our Term 3 novel is Tom Appleby, Convict Boy by Jackie French. This fabulous text-based unit guides all our teaching and learning in reading, grammar and writing. We will be drafting and writing information reports based on convicts and the First Fleet journey to Australia. We learn about life in 18th century England and the appalling life of a chimney sweep.
Mathematics Focus: Multiplication and Division
In mathematics, Term 3 will concentrate on building skills and knowledge of multiplication and division. Classroom learning will be supported by mathletics tasks to do at home.
Inquiry Topic: Geography - Liveability
This term, our inquiry topic will be centred around geography, with a specific focus on the concept of "liveability." Through engaging activities and discussions, students will explore the factors that contribute to a place's liveability, including social, economic, and environmental aspects. They will investigate various cities around the world and analyse the factors that make them desirable places to live. We will also delve into the importance of sustainable practices and how they contribute to the overall liveability of a community.
Homework Task:
This week we will present students with a homework assignment to be completed throughout the term. This task has 2 parts - Part 1 due at the end of Week 5 and Part 2 presented in the final week of term 3. It will involve researching a country and presenting their findings in a creative way. There are two parts to this assignment - students will bring home a hard copy of the task, and will also be able to access it on google classroom.
