Hello Level 1 Families
The first few weeks of Term 3 have gone by so quickly! It's amazing to think that we are already four weeks into our short, nine week term.
Thank you all for your support with your child's home reading, homework and, of course, our swimming program. Teachers have been very impressed with our Level 1 students getting in and out of the pool so efficiently. Fingers crossed we will have another fun week of swimming next week.
Please see the new homework sheet below. As always, a hard copy will be in your child's homework books as of today.
Term 3 Reminders:
Our classroom doors open at 8:50am everyday. This is to allow for students to enter the classroom, put their drink bottle and diary away, and then complete a 'soft start' at their desk. A soft start in the morning helps children ease into the school day feeling calm and settled. It supports positive relationships, encourages independence, and reduces anxiety. This gentle beginning sets a positive tone for learning and helps children feel ready to engage.
We kindly remind parents to say goodbye to their children at the classroom door.
Swimming continues next week, same days and times.
1B and 1C change their take home readers every FRIDAY and 1A will change theirs over each WEDNESDAY. Please remember to pack take home books on your allocated day.
Every Monday we have a Dance Incursion for 40 minutes. The first few weeks have been fantastic and students have already learnt a whole dance routine in readiness for our whole school concert to take place at the end of term.
Friday is still our library day, so please remember to bring library books back each Friday so that students can borrow a new book or two.
Science with Wilko and Safety Sue is always fun... but this week has been next level!
This week is National Science Week. Have you seen our transformed science room? Wow! It's amazing. Dinosaurs in every nook and cranny! Take a peek if you dare...
Next week we will continue reading, 'Can you teach a fish to climb a tree?' This children's book is about celebrating individuality and embracing unique strengths, not judging individuals by abilities that are not their natural talents. The book encourages readers to recognise their own special talents and the talents of others, rather than focusing on perceived shortcomings. It's a gentle story that promotes curiosity and acceptance, highlighting the value of what makes each person unique.

Heart words: This coming fortnight we will be focusing on the words their, after and before and writing these words into sentences.
This week we focussed on the words below:
Phonemes: Next week will be learning about the 'au' and 'aw' phonemes- as in launch and fawn.
Morphology: We will continue learning all about syllables.
We have been looking at open and closed syllables, vowel-consonant-vowel syllables as in beehive and sunshine and next week we will begin learning all about vowel team syllables. Example words with these syllables include rainbow, teapot and mailbox.
Over the past two weeks in Maths, our Grade 1 students have been looking at Calendars & Date Knowledge: Students are exploring how to read and use calendars. They’re identifying days of the week and months of the year, learning to sequence them and understand how they help us organise our world. We have also looked at Understanding Leap Years: We’ve introduced the concept of a leap year and why one extra day (February 29) appears every four years—helping students grasp how our calendar stays in sync with the seasons. Excitingly, students have been learning Analogue Clocks & Telling Time: Kids have dived into reading analogue clocks—especially how to tell time to the hour (e.g., “3 o’clock”)
Ways to support this focus at home:
This Terms focus is on the 7 different continents of the world. Our first continent that we visited was Australia. We have learnt about the different states, the capital cities, animals that are only found in Australia and also Indigenous Australians.
Over the coming fortnight we will be discovering new facts about our next continent- Asia!
