Term 3 2025
Please keep returning the take home books that are given for home reading. Please return every Monday as we rely on getting them back to give to another class and other students. Thank-you for doing so as we have noticed a huge improvement.
Every Friday we are alternating between SEPS Academy and Communities.
School Swimming - Continues up until Friday the 22nd August (excluding Monday 18th August)
Numeracy
Over the past fortnight in Mathematics, our Foundation students have been exploring the important connection between addition and subtraction. We have used part-part-whole circles to see how numbers can be put together and taken apart, and matched these with the four related number sentences. This hands-on approach has helped students see how addition and subtraction are closely linked.
We have also investigated measurement, focusing on the difference between long, tall, and short. Students learned that tall usually describes something that stands upright, while long often refers to something that lies on the ground or can be tied or wound, such as string or ribbon. Through practical activities, students have been comparing and describing objects using these terms.
In addition, we have been working on solving worded problems. Students practised
underlining important words in the question and using numbers or tally marks to find their answers. We also reviewed our Friends of 10 facts and revisited the concepts of greater than
and less than. The children have enjoyed applying these skills in a variety of activities, building both their confidence and mathematical thinking.
Literacy
We have altered our schedule to make way for swimming but have continued our fan favourite CORE Literacy each day. Recently we have been reviewing '-dge' as in bridge.
We have dived into the Magic e rule and looked at the other spelling choices that can make the long 'a' sound. Students have found this challenging, and we will continue to emphasise that the Magic e is the most common.
The ‘a’ sound can be made in many ways. This week students had exposure to the ‘ai’ sound like in the word sail; ‘ay’ as in play at the end of the word and the most common being a_e where the “e” at the end makes the vowel before it says its name just like in the word cake.
Heart words
This week we have been reviewing the heart words 'she, he' and 'there'. Our new heart word is because. It's a long one but knowing that it has 7 letters in it, helps. We also discussed how it can help us make compound sentences by joining two short sentences together.
Visual Art- please see 'Specialist Happenings' for an exciting whole school art project.
Thanks for all your support.
