Creating Futures Together

Year 9 City Excursion

Earlier this term Year 9s who expressed interest in going to the city experienced day of exploration as they ventured into the heart of Melbourne in small groups, tasked with completing a range of challenges that tested their teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity. From navigating bustling laneways to uncovering hidden city landmarks, collaboration and communication were key to their success.

A highlight of the day was the visit to Hosier Lane, where students were captivated by the vivid colours and bold messages of Melbourne’s iconic street art. The laneway served as a living gallery, sparking conversations about expression, culture, and identity.

No city adventure would be complete without sampling Melbourne’s famous food scene. Students eagerly embraced the chance to try diverse cuisines from dumplings in Chinatown to sweet treats from cosy cafés broadening their cultural horizons one bite at a time. Congratulations to the winning team with a hard-fought competition where 2 points separated the top 2 teams.

Year 9 RISE students recently embarked on a meaningful excursion to the Shrine of Remembrance where they deepened their understanding of Australia’s role in World War 1 and the lasting impact of war on the nation’s identity. Guided through the solemn halls of the Shrine, students learnt about its cultural and historical significance, particularly its connection to World War I and the values of courage, mateship, and sacrifice it represents.

Students also explored the Melbourne War Museum, where they examined artefacts from soldiers’ uniforms and letters to weaponry and medical kits; each telling a story of resilience and dedication. These tangible artefacts of history helped bring their classroom learning to life, allowing them to reflect on the human experiences behind Australia’s wartime involvement. By the end of the excursion, students gained a profound appreciation for the service and sacrifice of those who fought to protect Australia’s freedom.
