Celebrating Excellence and Creativity at WHSC

We will devote more space to our annual ‘The Hill Art and Technology Exhibition’ in our next Newsletter but I would like to affirm and celebrate on behalf of the College, what an endorsement the exhibition is of our school values and our Teaching and Learning Program. The Arts and Technology are powerful drivers of human innovation and achievement. On a micro scale our students are involved in a complex and challenging process of design thinking, collaboration, communication and prototyping. They learn from their mistakes and their successes. It is humbling and so rewarding to see young people so excited to share with their families and friends, their work. It is this sharing of the narrative of creation which is so important to curriculum development but more importantly, to the moral, ethical and cultural understanding of all of us. It is a beautiful showcase of what we learn from our children.

Our recent student athletic achievements at State level also emphasises the commitment to excellence, perseverance and commitment to improvement that our students demonstrate.

We would also like to share with you some data from the 2025 School Performance Report:

  • In NAPLAN Reading, 76% of Year 9 students are in the Strong and Exceeding bands, 9% higher than like schools

  • In Numeracy, nearly 70% of Year 9 students are in the Strong and Exceeding bands, higher than our like schools

  • In Writing, 70% of Year 9 students are in the Strong and Exceeding bands compared to 65% for like schools and 61% for State

  • Participation rates for NAPLAN at both Year 7 and 9 were 90% and above in each category and above State in every category

  • Student Participation rates from Year 7 to 12 in the Attitudes to School Survey was 94%, well above both like school and State percentages

We are very proud of the fact that we do take Student Voice very seriously at WHSC, and that students are given the opportunity to express their thoughts about school.

The VCAA Examinations have started, and we wish all students sitting them well. It will be over before you know it! Good luck from all staff at WHSC.
