From the Principal

As we navigate the final few weeks of Term 4, I would like to commend our students for their dedication to their learning, their efforts in completing assessments and examinations, and their enthusiastic participation in the many co-curricular opportunities across the College. There are so many events this term that celebrate the growth and accomplishments of our students, which makes this term uniquely special. We encourage all students to continue engaging fully with the rich learning opportunities on offer until the final day of term, making the most of everything that makes an Oxley Christian College education so distinctive.
This period of the school year comprises a broad range of assessment tasks for students across the College. This season can be challenging, but it also offers a valuable opportunity to reflect on the growth that has occurred throughout the year. Reaching our goals requires intentional hard work and engagement over an extended period. Angela Duckworth, in the book Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, notes, “Without effort, your skill is nothing more than what you could have done but didn’t.” Developing strong study habits supports our students as they prepare for future learning at school and beyond. We value the opportunity to support our students in developing skills to embrace the journey of continued academic learning, which is a key outcome outlined in our Portrait of a Graduate. Our students are always encouraged to reflect on the effectiveness of their approach to learning, including their homework and study routines, and consider ways to improve during each semester.
At this time of the year, it is also timely to acknowledge the support in place for all students to successfully transition into our College community and between year levels. A successful year level transition is characterised by positive educational, wellbeing, and social-emotional adjustment outcomes of students during their transition into our College community. Oxley Christian College is committed to providing a positive, safe, and supportive experience for all students. Our theme of Connection this year is also a reminder that we all play a role in supporting each student to feel a sense of belonging at Oxley. During Term 4, the College is facilitating a range of year level transition events, including a Prep Information Evening, Step into Prep orientation events, Transition Day, and the Head Start Program for our VCE students. We are praying that all our students feel optimistic and supported as they prepare for 2026.
At Oxley Christian College, our students have been supported throughout the year by our team of staff, including Home Group teachers, mentors, subject teachers, Year Level Coordinators, Heads of School, our Student Wellbeing Team, Learning Enhancement staff, music instructors, Administration and First Aid staff, and our Library staff, to name just some of the support structures. We are grateful that our students have so many staff assisting with their learning and wellbeing. Thank you once again to our dedicated team of staff for your efforts in supporting our students to flourish throughout the year.
Our theme verse has also reminded us throughout the year that we can find strength and support at any time through connecting with Jesus. There is so much that we can’t achieve in our own strength; however, we can lean on Jesus to seek help in any situation. This reminder of the strength we can find in Jesus is also reflected in the words of Philippians 4:13.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:13
We look forward to our traditional end of year events for the Junior School and Secondary School at Oxley, including the Prep Nativity, Final Assemblies and Presentation Evening. These events provide an opportunity for us to gather as a College community to give thanks to God for His goodness and all that has been achieved during the school year. We look forward to connecting for these events.
Working together,
Michael Bond
