Our recent City Experience saw our Year 9's travel into and around the CBD on four separate occasions with specific focuses for each visit. Spanning the entire term, our students travelled in with their CONNECT teachers in two groups – 9A, B, D and E and 9C, F and G. The first visit was a scavenger hunt throughout the CBD. Students learnt about famous landmarks, negotiated the streets and traffic and took in the sights and delights of the theatre district, Chinatown and the Melbourne Arts Centre.

Our second visit saw our students experiencing the city from the top of the Eureka Skydeck and also included a walk through the National Gallery of Victoria. For some, this trip to the top pushed them to face their fears and take on a whole new perspective of our fine city. Our third trip took us to the MCG for a tour and an opportunity to interact with and explore the sports museum. For our final trip into the city, the entire cohort planned and prepared their own schedule and route. Students negotiated travel times and the interests of group members to plan a trip to engage all involved.

Overall, our students were exemplary. Our Year 9's worked respectfully and responsibly, ensuring they arrived on time and represented our school well by wearing the correct uniform and following all the instructions set for the day. With buses replacing trains and delays across the travel network, our students also learnt how to pivot to get around the city.

We learnt a lot about the city and how to move through it and engage with others. One of the aims of this experience is to help prepare our young people for future, independent trips into the city.

Thank you to all students, staff, and families for their support and involvement in the City Experience. The Year 9 team look forward to preparing and planning to do it all again in 2026!
