Year 8 STEM Project

At the end of last term our year 8 students engaged in a STEM project; design a house to improve its energy efficiency.

This is a very relevant topic especially as energy bills rise and our environment continues to be of concern. Students investigated the effectiveness of passive housing designs by using sophisticated data logging equipment and materials.

They examined the impact double glazed windows, housing orientation and insulation may have on a house’s energy efficiency. The knowledge students gained from this exploration stage led into designing a ‘mock up’ house like a true architect, to show how they would build their future homes based on their own collected data.
