Welcome Back

Welcome back to our Scotsburn family. We hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable break. A special thank you to our team of chicken helpers over the break, as well as our families who homed Pip and SC3’s fish. It is wonderful to have so many families willing and able to help out.

Term 4 is always a busy and fun term, with this year being no exception. Please make sure to take note of the important dates above as well as all information that comes out on Compass. There certainly will be a lot happening!

We must also take this time to thank Karly Cooper, who is finishing up her time with us this week in SC2. While Mitch has been away on baby duties, we couldn’t have asked for a smoother transition, and the students have appreciated Karly’s kind and caring nature. You will be surely missed! Mitch is looking forward to being back on deck as of Thursday, and hopefully we get a visit with Honey in the very near future!

Good Luck Amity!

A big good luck to Amity who is representing the school at the Regional Athletics on Friday. What a great achievement!

P-2 Sports Day Information - Tuesday 10th October

Next Tuesday we have our Prep - 2 sports day at the Buninyong Campus. As we have P-2 students in both SC1 and SC2 (and SC3 away on Camp), all students in both SC1 and SC2 will spend the entire day at the Buninyong Campus.

Please see the start times below for our Prep - 2 students. When students are not participating in events, they will join P-2 classes at Buninyong. Our SC2 Grade 3/4 students will join Buninyong 3/4 classes for the day, allowing Mr Walsh to assist with the running of the Sports Day.

We will start and finish the day in the courtyard as usual. Students will be given more information later this week, as well as more information and reminders sent out on Compass prior to the day.

Any questions about the day, feel free to contact any of the Scotsburn staff.

SC3 Melbourne Camp - Monday 9th - Wednesday 11th October

The countdown is on for our 5/6 students to head off on Camp. Below are a few reminders ready for Monday morning departure. Please keep an eye out this week on Compass as well for any final reminders.

  • 8am departure on Monday morning. Please aim to be at Buninyong by 7:40am
  • We will aim to return to Buninyong by 3:15pm on Wednesday
  • Students will need a Myki card with $20 credit. These can be purchased from newsagents and train station.
  • Students may bring up to $30 spending money
  • We have no issue with students who wish to bring a cheap digital camera to get photos during camp. Students will not need a mobile phone during camp.
  • Any medication, please bring in a sealed zip lock bag, with name labelled, and bring into BER on Monday morning. Parents will need to fill out a medication authority form as they drop the medication off.
  • Camp is full school uniform, including school hat. This is imperative as we move through the busy streets of Melbourne.
  • No need for bedding as it is provided. Clothing list below:

School Uniform

Coming into the warmer months, it is always a good idea to send out a reminder about the Buninyong Primary School uniform guidelines. Please see below:

All uniform items must comply with our school uniform guidelines.

In particular:

  • Shorts being plain black (no logos) and of an appropriate length for school (no exercise / bike shorts / running shorts)
  • Black shoes (runners, school shoes or boots)
  • Socks plain black or white only
  • School hats (broad or bucket) only
  • Please make sure all pieces of uniform are clearly named. Named items will be returned to students when found.

This includes school hats, as they are again compulsory and must be worn by all students in term four, in line with our Sunsmart Policy.

Remember: No hat – No outside play!

Our uniform shop is fully stocked for over the counter and online sales. You can order and pay via QKR and your child can collect from the school office. If you call through to the office, delivery to their classroom can also be arranged.

Your help in ensuring that all students are in the correct uniform is appreciated. Please feel free to contact the school if you have any further questions.

Author Study

This week, students will be immersed in another Author Study, with Graeme Base as our local author. Our goal is to foster a positive reading culture throughout the school, encouraging students to approach literature with enthusiasm and engagement. Author Studies serve the purpose of igniting passion and expanding knowledge about literature.

Throughout the week, students will have the chance to delve deeply into Graeme Base's life and explore many of his literary works. This exploration will extend beyond merely reading the books; students will critically evaluate the author's themes, characters, and writing style, while also drawing connections to their own life experiences.

We anticipate an exciting and enriching week of learning, and we look forward to sharing with you, next week, the fun and insightful experiences that transpired during this Author Study.

Celebration of Learning

Thank you to all parents, carers, and special friends who attended the Celebration of Learning in the last week of term. We trust that you were able to capture and enjoy some of the wonderful learning opportunities that our students at Scotsburn engage in. The Celebration of Learning provides an excellent platform for students to showcase the work they take pride in and celebrate the hard work they put in each school day.

Parent Volunteering

Later this week I will send out another volunteering roster for Term 4. We absolutely loved and cherished the parent support we had in Term 3, and we look to keep that momentum going through to the end of the year. If you are willing and able to help out the campus in some capacity, please keep an eye out for the roster on Compass in the coming days.

Enrolments for 2024

If you have a child or know of someone who has a child to enrol in Prep for 2024, please see Ana for an enrolment form, go to the office at Buninyong or access an enrolment form via our school website.

We are excited that in line with the current Department of Education guidelines we are able to provide our Pre-Schooler Program during the fourth term as part of our enrollment process. Once you have returned your enrolment form, you will be sent further information to book your child into the Pre-Schooler Program. Please see Ana if you require further information.

Classroom Newsletters

Please keep an eye out on Friday for Term 4 classroom newsletters. Each child will be sent home with a hard copy and an electronic copy will also be available on Compass. Term 4 is an extremely busy term, so please ensure you have all important dates and information at hand.

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.
