Earlier this term the Year 9 Chinese Language class embarked on an insightful outing to Melbourne Town Hall, attending Chinese Cultural Day.

The Chinese Cultural Day event is designed to showcase the different aspects of Chinese culture and language, offering students a glimpse into its various dimensions. The three-hour event was a combination of performances, interactive sessions, and a quiz that presented an opportunity for all participants to win prizes.

The event brought together over a thousand students from all across Victoria, all enjoying activities such as the Lion Dance and other traditional Chinese dances, each of which offer a distinct insight into Chinese traditions. A notable segment included an interview with the winner of the Chinese Reading competition, sharing their Chinese learning journey.

The event's interactive activities included a quiz that engaged students by testing their knowledge of Chinese culture and language. During the quiz, Oscar Kowarsky, a student from our school, answered a question correctly, and received a prize on stage. Oscar also participated in singing the Chinese song Finding a Friend along with fellow students.

Following the event, the students went to a Chinese restaurant for lunch, giving them the chance to experience Chinese cuisine, and in turn extending theit cultural exploration.

The excursion left a great impact on the students, fostering an appreciation for Chinese language and culture. Relating their learning to the 'real-world' beyond the classroom has further motivated them to continue to engage with their study of the Chinese language.
