VTAC - Offers for course placements
How are offers generated?
- The algorithm that VTAC uses to create and issue course placement offers to students will start at the top of a student's list of preferences, and search in order of preference
- The algorithm identifies the highest course preference for which the student meets all the criteria to qualify for a placement offer. These criteria may include - but are not limited to - ATAR score, individual subject scores, prerequisite subject completion, selection task/folio submission etc)
- The system issues an offer for that course, and no more offers in that round
What should students do?
If you receive a course placement offer in December
- Accept the offer
- Move that preference to the bottom of your preference list and click Submit. By doing this in the next round of offers, you’ll be considered for all of your listed preferences, as the algorithm starts from the top again.
- Repeat these actions for any subsequent offers received

SEAS (Special Entry Access Scheme)
Key information
If there have been circumstances that have affected your study, studnets should consider putting in a special consideration application via VTAC’s Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS).
SEAS is designed to make sure institutions get a sense of a student's full potential and it enables institutions to consider the circumstances of a student's individual experience and impacts upon student studies, outcomes as the institution makes selection decisions.
What is SEAS and how does it work?
For a video guide, view the What is SEAS and how does it work? explainer video which also describes why each applicant should at least apply for Category 1. There is no possible negative outcome to applying for SEAS consideration, but there are many possible benefits. SEAS
- helps institutions understand your full potential by considering the circumstances you have experienced
- allows institutions to grant special consideration for course entry
- does not exempt you from meeting the institutional and course requirements
Categories for Consideration
There are four categories in SEAS. You can apply for one or more categories that are relevant to your situation, so long as you apply to each category for a different reason. Further information about each of these categories is available from the links below.

This category includes age, living or school location, under-representation of a gender in a course or field of study, recognition as an Indigenous Australian, recognition for being from a non-English speaking background and recognition for being the first in your family to attend tertiary study. |
Category 2 | Disadvantaged financial background |
Category 3 | Disability or medical condition |

Please remember that Laura is here to help you write and edit your SEAS application.
Do not leave it until the last day, as there may not be time to edit, save evidence documents and submit in time.
