Japanese Day

What an amazing day we all had on Friday! There were so many incredible Japanese cultural experiences that the students were able to participate in, with high energy and smiles on display throughout the day.

A massive thank you must be given to Liz and Leah for such an amazing day! We hope all students came home on Friday afternoon raving about their day!

P-2 Sports Day

We hope all of our Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students had an amazing day at today’s Sports Day. Well done to everyone for giving their personal best!

Grade 3/4 Girls H&HR Session - Wednesday 11th October

Tomorrow all of our Grade 3/4 girls will be attending their second H&HR session. The arrangements will be the same as the session that they attended last term.

  • Girls start the day at Buninyong, meeting Raquel in the courtyard, then head with Raquel to the library from 9am – 9:30am.
  • Raquel will then walk with the girls to the H&HR session, in the Base 1270 room with Claire Morris.
  •  At the completion of the session (11am), the girls will head to the office, ready for pick up and transfer back to Scotsburn. Liz will pick the girls up and transport them back to Scotsburn at recess.

If you have any questions regarding the arrangements, please see Mitch today. Any questions regarding the program, feel free to email Claire at claire.morris@education.vic.gov.au

SC1 Learning Snapshot

SC1 had a week full of fun for their first week back. They thoroughly enjoyed the Author Study and exploring Graeme Base’s books. Animalia was hit with an alphabet hunt in the glorious sun. We celebrated our Persuasive Writing Cycle from the last term in style! A huge thank you to everyone for sending in a plate of food. We played pass the parcel, keepy upy, bubbles outside, we danced and incorporated all the wonderful requests that were put forward - to have fun!

Japanese Day was also a highlight with lots of fun activities and cultural experiences that were put together by Liz and Leah, our Japanese teachers. These days create another layer of knowledge and connection to Japanese culture and our students are very lucky to have these opportunities. Thanks, Liz and Leah for such a wonderful day!

We have kindergarten transition over the next 3 weeks on Wednesday mornings, 9:15 am - 10:45 am. These provide a great opportunity for our new Preps to experience school and become comfortable in their new surroundings as well as make friends.

Don’t forget we have Prep-Two Sports Day this week. Please make sure you read all the information provided in the Scotsburn section and the whole school newsletter regarding the running of the day.

We hope everyone got a printed copy and was able to access the digital copy on Compass of our SC1 Term 4 Newsletter. Please make sure you have a good read of all the information.

Next week we will be taking part in an online workshop ‘URStrong’ around creating healthy friendships. This incorporates how to make friends, how to talk things out, forgive people, and create closer and stronger friendships. All students are asked to bring along a small soft toy that does not have sound.

If you have any questions regarding any information, please feel free to email us.

Thanks,

Ana and Kirsty.

SC2 Learning Snapshot

An action-packed start to Term 4 saw us say a sad goodbye to Karly who did such an amazing job in SC2 for a whole 19 days. We thank Karly for her hard work and kindness shown throughout this time. Thank you so much for the amazing support, cards, gifts and check-ins that my new little family have received over the past 6 weeks (how fast that has gone!) We really appreciate the kindness and it is a reminder of just how lucky we are to have such supportive parents at Scotsburn.

Last Friday, our students ventured down to Buninyong and took part in our Japanese Day. I was so very proud of the way that SC2 students participated, mingled and respected one-another, the students from Buninyong and the guests throughout the day. Well done!

SC3 Learning Snapshot

Camp week is here! We can’t wait to share all of our amazing experiences in Melbourne when we get back. Thank you for all families being so organised and prepared for the trip. In preparation for some of the camp experience, last week SC3 students worked on some mapping and coordinate tasks, including designing their own versions of the game ‘battleships”.

SC3 also spent some time last week diving into our Graeme Base author study, with a focus on the books “Animalia” and “The 11th Hour”. Students loved developing their repertoire of adverbs and adjectives to help create a ‘dream’ birthday invite.

Hopefully you all received a digital copy on Compass of our SC3 Term 4 Newsletter. Please make sure you have a good read of all the information. I will also provide a hard copy to families when we return from camp.

Have a wonderful week everyone,

Jarrod

School Uniform

Coming into the warmer months, it is always a good idea to send out a reminder about the Buninyong Primary School uniform guidelines. Please see below:

All uniform items must comply with our school uniform guidelines.

In particular:

  • Shorts being plain black (no logos) and of an appropriate length for school (no exercise / bike shorts / running shorts)
  • Black shoes (runners, school shoes or boots)
  • Socks plain black or white only
  • School hats (broad or bucket) only
  • Please make sure all pieces of uniform are clearly named. Named items will be returned to students when found.

This includes school hats, as they are again compulsory and must be worn by all students in term four, in line with our Sunsmart Policy.

Remember: No hat – No outside play!

Our uniform shop is fully stocked for over the counter and online sales. You can order and pay via QKR and your child can collect from the school office. If you call through to the office, delivery to their classroom can also be arranged.

Your help in ensuring that all students are in the correct uniform is appreciated. Please feel free to contact the school if you have any further questions.

Author Study

Graeme Base’s books certainly brought enthusiasm to our Author Study that took place last week. Students loved the hidden messages and the brilliant illustrations that captured interest and prompted thought-provoking responses. They were given the opportunity to delve into the life of Graeme Base and learn more about the themes in his books, the characters, and his writing style. Students certainly enjoyed the experience and have shown growth in reading, writing, and research skills developed through our Author Studies

SC1 ‘Then and Now’ Sovereign Hill Excursion

In the last week of Term 3, students in SC1 were lucky enough to spend the day at Sovereign Hill as part of their Then and Now Integrated topic. It was such a nice way to tie in everything we had been learning over the term. Students got to see the Red Coats marching along the main street and firing their guns, which was VERY loud! We saw (and tasted) lollies and candle making. Students also participated in a learning programme where ‘Marm’ taught us all about clothes, toys and toileting in the 1850s. One of our favourite activities was panning for the gold. Some students even found some. Eureka!

Here are some of the student's favourite activities from Sovereign Hill.

Zelda - Eating the raspberry drops

Charlotte - Seeing the horses and cart walking up the main street

Ella - Panning for gold

Aelwen - Everything

Hugo - Playing on the playground and going down the slide

Maya - Trying the lime lollies

Kyrah - Visiting the lolly shop

Chelsea - Seeing and candle shop

Annie - Everything!

Florence - Seeing the soldiers

Jimmy - Having a lolly at the shop

Lawson - Going gold panning and finding gold!

Archie - Looking at all the shops

Maverick - Panning for gold

Scarlett - Seeing the Red Coat soldiers

Parent Volunteering

Next week we will get our volunteering roster back up and running. Thanks in advance for all the assistance!

Enrolments for 2024

If you have a child, or know of someone who has a child to enrol in Prep for 2024, please see Ana for an enrolment form, go to the office at Buninyong or access an enrolment form via our school website. We are excited that in line with the current Department of Education guidelines we are able to provide our Pre-Schooler Program during the fourth term as part of our enrolment process. Once you have returned your enrolment form, you will be sent further information to book your child into the Pre-Schooler Program. Please see Ana if you require further information.

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.
