Tournament of Minds

Claire Hatchman - Leader of Student Engagement & Activities

We are thrilled to share some remarkable news from last Sunday's Queensland State Finals of Tournament of Minds (TOM) held on the sunny Gold Coast. Our school's participation in TOM this year was a historic one, and the outcome surpassed all expectations. Two of our TOM teams, the Language Literature Team and the STEM Team, ventured to the State Finals to showcase their problem-solving prowess in a three-hour lockup, without access to any technology, a true test of their creativity and teamwork. We are immensely proud of our TOM teams, and their accomplishments have set a high standard for the future.

Language Literature Team: Queensland State Champions!

Language Literature Team: Isabella A (Year 9, Greccio), Preeya M (Year 9, BP), Monica M (Year 9, VS), Sarah Chew (Year 9, VS), Charley Backway (Year 7, BP), Kailyn F (Year 7, Perugia), Olivia F (Year 7, Perugia)

Our Language Literature Team, consisting of some of our most talented wordsmiths, displayed incredible ingenuity and linguistic finesse. They tackled complex challenges and devised a unique solution, earning them the title of Queensland State Champions for their discipline. It's an exceptional achievement, especially considering that this is our school's first year participating in TOM. Kudos to these students for their dedication and hard work. We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Ms. Tonia Campbell who attended the State Finals, and Ms. Annette Butterworth, who guided and supported the Language Literature Team throughout the competition.

STEM Team: Queensland State Champions in STEM Excellence!

STEM Team: Samira B (Year 9, Greccio), Stephanie M (Year 9, Greccio), Emma M (Year 9, VS), Ava W (Year 8, VS), Milly T (Year 7, BP), Ella S (Year 7, Perugia), Josie R (Year 7, BP)

Our STEM Team, comprised of our budding scientists and engineers, demonstrated their exceptional problem-solving skills and technical insight. In the face of challenging problems, they worked collaboratively and devised an innovative solution that propelled them to the top spot as Queensland State Champions in STEM. Their achievement reflects the incredible potential and determination of our students, especially considering this is our inaugural year in TOM. We extend our sincere gratitude to Ms. Colleen Goodin who attended the State Finals, and Ms. Alison Hutchinson, who provided invaluable guidance and encouragement to the STEM Team. Her expertise and dedication have played a significant role in shaping these young minds for success.
