Cultural Festival

Acting Head of Arts - Monica Willoughby

The energy was high as students arrived at the College ready for the 2023 Cultural Festival and to celebrate the Feast day of Saint Francis.  As a College community we came together in the San Damiano to acknowledge and celebrate the importance of St Francis. As individuals we reflected on ourselves and the positive impact we can have on those less fortunate and God's creation. After the mass, with Friday Night Fever as this year's Cultural Festival theme, students transformed into their favourite dance movie characters, wearing sequins and dancing their way through the campus to take in the sounds of the FCIP Rock Band. The Village Green was a hub of activity and the atmosphere electric with students enjoying the music and various food truck delights on offer. Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to engage in a range of workshops such as Torres Strait Islander dancing and an art workshop ran by First Nations artists.

The fun didn’t stop there, with opportunities for students to compete in the annual Mount Alvernia cake decorating competition and Costume Parade with prizes awarded for the best cake and the best dressed. A game of volleyball on the oval provided entertainment and the opportunity for houses to compete against one another. Ms Flux and Ms Hastings shared their creativity at the face painting station transforming our students faces into a sea of love hearts and rainbows. It was safe to say that there was something for everyone. In the afternoon, students came together in their houses to practice one last time before the annual Battle of the Houses competition. This term, house spirit has come to life as students have been working together to choreograph their house dance. All house dances made for an entertaining afternoon allowing all students to shine and share their talents. In between house dances, the audience cheered and supported performers from the Heats competition held earlier in the term.

This year, the Cultural Festival trophy was awarded to Belle Prairie House. This year the Battle of the Houses trophy was awarded to Greccio House. Well done GRECCIO! Thank you to all the students who got involved in the activities and the energy and enthusiasm they maintained throughout the day. I would also like to thank the supervising teachers, Heads of House, House Captains, FCIP Rock Band, Heats Performers, Mr Rogusz, Ms Curcuruto, Ms Feltrin, Ms Testa, Mr Smith, Mr Taylor and the 2023 Cultural Captain Chiara Pezzetta for her vision and leadership in her role.
