Fluttering News from Year 1

Topic:

We are excited to share some fluttering news from our Grade 1 classroom! This week, our classrooms welcomed two butterfly chrysalises into our class. This hands-on experience is a part of our science curriculum, designed to teach students about the fascinating life cycle of butterflies.

In about 4 to 12 days, we expect to see our butterflies emerge. This hands-on project is a wonderful way for students to learn about nature and responsibility. Stay tuned for photos and updates as we prepare to release our butterflies into the wild!

English:

Students are diving into fascinating non-fiction texts, learning factual information about different species, habitats, and plant life cycles. Meanwhile, fiction stories are sparking their imagination and creativity, bringing the wonders of nature to life through engaging narratives.

This integrated ‘Core Knowledge’ approach broadens their knowledge about the natural world which, in turn, builds students' background knowledge and introduces and consolidates new vocabulary. We're excited to see our young learners grow as readers

and nature enthusiasts!

Maths:

Our Grade 1 students are making great strides in math! Students are using concrete materials, such as counters and blocks, to visualise and solve problems. Number lines are helping them understand sequences and the relationship between numbers. Additionally, we're introducing word problems to develop their critical thinking and application skills.

Athletics Carnival:

Our Grade 1 students showed incredible sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the event. The children participated in various activities, cheering each other on and celebrating every achievement with joy and support. Their positive attitudes and team spirit were truly inspiring, making the day enjoyable for everyone involved.

We are so proud of our young athletes for their efforts and commend them for embodying the true spirit of sportsmanship.

Religion:

We have continued to explore the Creation Story, and be amazed by all the wondrous things that God has created. The students have been exploring all the amazing ways to support and look after God’s creation.
