Teaching and Learning and Marrung Update
Assistant Principal Update
Brooke Roy
As we approach the midpoint of the year, I would like to share some exciting updates and ongoing initiatives, focusing on Teaching and Learning, Teacher Coaching and the Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan.
Enhancing Teaching and Learning
Our commitment to fostering a stimulating and supportive learning environment continues to be our top priority. We are continuing to embed several new teaching strategies designed to engage students deeply in their learning. Our recent Curriculum Day was dedicated to building our capacity in both these skills alongside SWPBS strategies and Berry Street training.
Teacher Coaching and Mentoring
We believe that the professional growth of our teachers is crucial to the success of our students. This term, we have expanded our classroom coaching program, continuing one-on-one mentoring to new staff as well as all Year 11 Teachers. Coaches observe classroom practices, provide constructive feedback, and assist in setting professional goals. This program aims to enhance instructional skills, promote innovative teaching methods, and ultimately improve student outcomes.
We also have Instructional Observations across the week when our School Improvement Team visit classrooms to give teachers snapshot feedback on their practice over a 10 - 20 minute chunk of their lesson. This feedback in real time is invaluable for our teachers and highlights their glows and grows in classroom management, engaging teaching strategies and SWPBS strategies on show.
Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan
Our commitment to the Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan remains strong and we have been chosen as a beacon school this year for how well we are moving in this space to support all key stakeholders.
Our Semester 1 Action Plan has been endorsed by DET and is our commitment to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are thriving in our school community. We have implemented culturally inclusive curricula, supported by professional learning sessions for staff to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal histories and cultures.
Celebrating First Nation students' achievements and integrating Indigenous perspectives across all subjects are key components of our strategy and we look forward to Reconciliation Week this week which highlights the importance of both Mob and Allies coming together, Now More Than Ever.
